LUKE

I saw Jenna walk into the clearing around Vixen's body. She was a mess. She couldn't even stand the sight. She doubled over the second she saw Vixen and ran back to the house. She was such a girly girl. She wasn't bold, not even a little.
She was nothing like Vixen.

And now, the feistiest girl I knew, was lying on the grass dead. Never to live again. It still hadn't sunk in yet.

On the ground next to her body was her little sister, Lynn. She saw Vixen first, and screamed so loud that everyone came out of the drunk state they were in to find out what had happened. Poor Lynn couldn't stop crying. Endless tears ran down her pretty face.

I bent down next to her and tried to comfort her. She pushed me away. The sadness in her eyes was replaced with pure resentment. I moved back. I could understand why she despised me.

Lynn was a freshman at our high school, so she knew almost everything about me and Vixen's relationship, which didn't end very well. She probably thought I was a jerk for dumping her sister.

A teenage boy entered the circle we were standing in, and I moved out of the way. He froze when he saw Vixen's body. He didn't stay like that for long, though. He knelt down next to Lynn and hugged her. Lynn seemed comfortable with him.

"I'm so sorry, Lynn," I heard him say, and he kissed her forehead. "Must be her boyfriend," I thought. Realizing that she was in good hands, I turned and walked back to the house.

On my way, I couldn't help thinking about Vixen. I loved her once. Maybe I still did.

My thought went back to a couple of weeks ago, when we were still together. It was senior prom night, and I was dancing with her, staring deep into her pretty brown eyes. We were crowned prom king and queen that night, and the tiara on her head was the finishing touch to her elegant attire. No one could keep their eyes off her. I was so happy she was mine that day.

But things started spiraling for us from that day. Too many people became jealous of her after prom. Who wouldn't envy Vixen Kent?

She was the second of the four Kent sisters, one of the richest families in Sylvan Valley. All the sisters were drop dead gorgeous.
They were smart, too, even Vixen. Everyone wanted to be them. But I knew Vixen, and deep inside, she wished she could be anyone but herself.

When we were freshmen at Sylvan High, a serial killer, known as The Phantom, started stalking and killing high school girls. Vixen's older sister Kaitlynn was one of his first victims. Vixen said she saw the killer at a party, but no one believed her, since she was so hysterical and no one saw the man fitting her description but her. She blames herself everyday for what happened.

She was so wild, so carefree, because being like that helped her forget the burden she bared. Grief washed over me.

She didn't deserve this. No one did.

When I made it inside, I saw kids huddled together talking. Some who were close to her were crying. Others just continued drinking. But there was one person sitting alone, looking very haggard in the corner of my kitchen. I knew who it was. Suddenly, my grief turned into burning anger as I stormed forward.

"You did this, didn't you?" I yelled in blind rage. Jenna looked up at me, her expression full of fear. People turned to watch as I got closer to her and held her by the throat. Screams filled the room.

Jenna struggled and gasped for air. "N-no, Luke, stop!" she stammered, but I only tightened my grip. One of my friends tried to separate us, but their pleas fell on deaf ears.

"You killed her Jenna, just admit it!" I growled loudly. She continued to struggle to break free as she ran out of breath.

"Hey! Luke!" a deep voice yelled, and I let go of Jenna reluctantly. I knew that voice.

I turned to my brother. He was standing at the front door a couple of feet away.
He wasn't standing alone. Three men in uniform were standing with him.

The police.

My friends panicked. People rushed to pack up their stuff and leave. The officer raised his hands to stop them.
"No one's leaving," the officer announced, "Move to the other room and wait there."

Two of the cops went with my guest. In seconds, the only people left in the kitchen were Jenna, my brother Greg, the policeman, and me.

The officer took a step forward,
"I have some questions to ask you."
I nodded solemnly.
"Why were you accusing this young lady of murdering Miss Kent?

Jenna pleading eyes met mine. I shouldn't. Jenna was so high when she said all those things about Vixen in the basement. But didn't she vanish for a long time after that? Why should I even try to protect her? It's not like we're besties or something.
She was the one flirting with me, just to frustrate Vixen. Jenna hated her; that's enough motive for murder, right?

I turned to the cop, "Jenna's been telling everyone how much she hates Vixen. And then she disappeared until we found Vixen dead. That's why I accused her," I answered ruefully.

Jenna burst into fresh tears. "I didn't do it, I swear! I went to the bathroom..."
"For two hours!" I furiously fired back.

The officer, still very calm, asked Jenna why she kept so long in the restroom.
"I was sick," she said quietly and averted her eyes. The officer gave her a questioning look. "Are you sure?"
"Yes, yes I am. It's probably just a hangover, whatever," she mumbled.

"A hangover?" the officer asked. He now turned to Greg, who was cringing next to me. "You told me there was no booze here?" Greg cleared his throat. Jenna's gaze shifted to her feet as tension started to build in the room. I glared at her. "Geez, thanks a lot, Jenna. Now we'll be arrested for underage drinking and homicide."

Greg put his hands in his pockets nonchalantly. "Well, I'm twenty–two officer, I'm allowed to drink. My brother's friends must have found my stash and helped themselves," my brother said plainly and shrugged, "You can't expect me to watch him every second. He's like, seventeen. He can take care of himself."

Trust my brother to talk his way out of a bad situation.

The policeman scoffed at him and turned back to Jenna. "Did anyone see you go to the bathroom?" Jenna shook her head, "I don't know," she said, on the verge of tears again.

"Then I'm sorry miss," the officer said, "You're under arrest for the murder of Vixen Kent."
