LYNN
I was tired of the pattern of my life recently. It was school and home, school and home, and then school and home again. I was sick of the repeating cycle.
So since I wasn't allowed to leave home, I decided to go outside and get some fresh air.
I sat on our tyre swing with one of my favorite books. The cool night air blew through my curly black hair. Everything was quiet except for the low whistle of the wind.It was too quiet. Vixen was the one who brought life back to this house after the Katy incident. She was always blasting some loud pop songs from her speakers or playing a soft piece on the piano. She was talkative, and she always found a way to make us laugh when we felt bad.
Now she's gone, too.
We must've died with her, because this house has been as silent as a cemetery ever since.
I got bored of reading and stared into space, looking at the stars above.
"Lynn," someone called.I looked around. "Who's there?" I asked.
"It's me," the voice said.
I finally saw who it was.
"Vixen!" I squealed. "You came back!"I remembered the terrible dream I had the night she died. We were in this same backyard.
She was standing in front of me, with her hair held in a ponytail and a smile on her face, just like the last time.
"I just wanted to visit," she said. "How's Erin? And Mom and Dad?"
"They're fine," I told her. "Only sad because they miss you."
"I know," she sighed. "But this is the only way I can protect you forever. From this side I can stop the Phantom without him hurting me."
"Have you found him?"
"Yes I have. I'm very close to making him pay for all he did.""Do you haunt him?" I asked her.
"Heck yeah!" Vixen smirked. "He's even in the hospital from the last scare I gave him.""Really? Take me to him! I want to see his sorry face!"
"No, Lynn," Vixen shook her head. "That would be dangerous. And I don't have enough evidence yet to accuse him of anything yet.""That's too bad. Hey, Do you visit Erin and our parents too?"
"No."
"Why?"
"I can't," she said. "Mom and Dad are too sad, and I don't want to traumatize poor Erin.""Oh," I sighed.
Suddenly her face changed. She looked worried and scared.
"Vixen what's wrong?" I asked her."I'm sorry, Lynn. I have to go right now. Go inside and stay with Erin."
"But–"She was already gone.
I ran inside to go check on my little sister.
When I got there they were watching the news.
A picture of an estranged man was in the top right corner of the TV. Officer Jack was talking about him."The man in the corner of your screens is our main suspect in the Vixen Kent murder case. We have reason to believe that he is the Phantom. His name is Rick Ripley, age 46. We believe he has changed his appearance and goes by another name.
An amount of fifty thousand dollars will be given to anyone who can give us more information about The Phantom's whereabouts. We also suggests that everyone stays alert. This man is not mentally stable. Please do not try to apprehend him alone. If you see him, please inform the police.
Thank you for your attention and good evening."My parents looked disturbed. Erin staring at the picture of the man, as if she was trying to commit it into memory.
My mind wandered back to Vixen's worried expression before she left.
