Chapter 39
                              Chase's PoV
It was Sunday. I had a lot of time on my hands, now, to think as I sat back down. I wanted to kill the man that had done that to her but  that wasn't the first of my priorities right now; right now I wanted her to be happy and I couldn't give her that.
At least not now and I couldn't keep her hanging like that so I did what I had never thought I'd do in a million years; I handed over my darling to the man who loved her a lot but I'm not sure more than me though. Yes, I was now sure that I, Chase Drew, was very much in love with my student.
                              I called up Barry,
"Hi Bear I need a favour."
                              "What now baby brother?"
                              "Give me Jason Dawfield's number."
"What. The. Fuck? Why do you need that?"
"Just," my voice was almost painful as it trembled due to the how my throat had constricted as the tears brimmed my eyes, "give it to me."
                              "Tell me why."
"I'm going to do something I promised you I wouldn't do."
"The fuck brother? What are you going to do? I swear to God, if you do anything to Yrene I will fucking kill you."
"I have to, okay? I have to let her go for her to be happy."
"She's happy with you! I've seen it in her eyes!"
"She deserves someone better, someone who can treat her right publicly and privately, someone who can express his love for her in his eyes the whole time. She deserves someone who wasn't already as invested and in love with another person. Besides", I whispered the last part painfully as an agonising pang went through my heart," she's engaged to Jason Dawfield."
                              "What? Engaged? No. Why?"
                              "Her parents."
"I hate those bastards and I'm going to make them pay."
"No, Bear you won't do anything. Jason loves her and he will undoubtedly treat her right, I saw it in his eyes the other day and today too. And I've made my decision, send me his number."
The line snapped and a few minutes later my phone screen lit up showing a notification from Bear. Without wasting another second I dialled Jason Dawfield's number up.
~*~
"Hello." I extended my hand and he shook it awkwardly. I invited him in and offered him coffee which he accepted.
"So Jason, as I mentioned on the phone call I'm Chase Drew."
                              He scoffed.
"Yes, I know. You're the guy who my fiancé ran towards to feel safe."
                              "Indeed."
"Then what am I here for?"
"Look Jason, I love her, I love her with all my heart but I have yet to confess it to her but I don't plan on doing that because I know she's engaged to you and that you love her-"
"Love her? Dude you're out of your mind and I'm out of here. Bye."
"Stop Jason." Thankfully, he obeyed. "How long are you going to pretend like you don't love her? Dude I've seen it in your eyes, the way you look at her and the way you hide a proud smile when she's sitting behind you on that goddamned motorcycle!"
"Why do you care? You love her and she more than definitely loves you, so what's the problem here? I'm only the wall in your way, right?"
"You're right you are a wall but that is inconsequential as of now. I won't tell her I love her because that's something I can't do-"
"Why can't you?" He was unable to keep the bite from his voice.
"Because I'm her maths teacher." I
hung my head low but not before I caught the expression of disbelief on his handsome face.
"What the actual fuck? That's illegal bro."
"I know and that's why I haven't confessed my love to her, that, and because I can't give her the happiness she deserves. But you can Jason."
"I don't think you know but she's been smiling more and laughing more than ever of late and I think that's because of you. So what makes you say you can't give her that happiness?"
"You said it yourself and I'm well aware of it too, it's illegal and I would never jeopardise her position for myself; I'm not that selfish Jason. I won't keep her tied down to me knowing that our relationship might not even survive against the other norms and societal values. I'm no fool."
"What has this got anything to do with me?"
"I'm giving her to you now Jason, or I will tomorrow after I give her a birthday present and tell her we're over. But promise me."
                              "What?"
"Promise me that you'll protect her, love her and cherish her no matter what. Promise me that you'll go to the world's last corner for even the slightest of her happiness. Promise me that you'll never hurt her, never let her down."
By now the tears I had kept at bay had started leaking from my eyes.
"But Chase she loves you, not me."
"Then make her love you. You're well capable of it."

"And if you hurt her, I swear to God I will burn this world down to find you and kill you with my bare hands."
                              "Fine then, I promise."
"I'll try my best to make her forget me or at least forget the romantic love she holds for me. Stop hiding your love from her."
"It's hard not to when she's out there loving someone else. But I've hid it so well I'm quite shocked you found out."
"One man in love can easily tell when another man is in love, especially with the same woman. Besides you don't even have to say it, it was quite evident in your eyes, the love, and the jealousy and rage you had in your eyes that day you dropped her off to my house. Not to mention the way she described the way you fought for her with that man that tried to force himself upon her."
"You're a smart man, Chase and thank you, for handing over to me the love of your life like this. It takes a brave heart to make a noble man. And you're more than noble for giving her to me like this, in all honesty I could never have done it, given the woman I loved to another man. Never."
I only nodded and he took that as a cue to leave. I had done it. I had given up the love of my life and she didn't even know. I had promised to protect her but I was the one that ended up hurting her.
Retiring to my room I cried myself to sleep that night.
