After beginning to teach the Blue Lions class, Byleth realized quickly enough students who have deep bonds will perform better when near each other on the battlefield. Annette and Mercedes, for example, worked incredibly well together because they were best friends. They knew how to coordinate together.

There wasn't a better display of teamwork and coordination than Sylvain and (y/n) though. Somehow, they worked together better than anyone could. It was almost as if they could read each other's thoughts. When they fought side-by-side, it was almost unreal. It made sense why Byleth would always keep them close on the battlefield.

Sylvain would never even think to complain about being paired up with (y/n) instead of a chick he could hit on. Like Ingrid, she was one of his best friends, not someone he could play with a few times then cheat on when he got bored. Even when he did use his smooth moves on her, it was always a joke. He wouldn't dare break her heart. Not only would it cause him to suffer as well, his friends would all gang up on him for it.

He never really wanted to have that kind of relationship with her, though. She meant something different to him. He thought of her as, like...a little sister he had to guard at all costs.

Sylvain drew his lance as he arrived on the battlefield with the other students of his class. Byleth was taking them on an extra mission to get more training in before the big assignment at the end of the month.

As always, (y/n) was right by his side as they followed their teacher's orders and rushed into battle.

Sylvain struck the first enemy while (y/n) took down another nearby. Working together without a word, they finished off a reasonable amount of enemies right there.

(y/n) seemed to be having fun. She dashed up to Sylvain's side after he attacked an opponent, taking them down with one well-aimed blast of magic.

He flashed a grateful smile at her. "You've still got it."

"Same to you, Gautier." She returned his smile with her own bright grin. "As bad as it sounds, combat is fun. Especially when we partner up."

He shook his head. "You and Felix...."

"Oh!" She sent a strike of thunder on an enemy who dared to interrupt their conversation. "I just came up with a great idea!"

Sylvain kept an eye on his surroundings, but no enemies seemed to be nearby. "That should probably wait until we finish up here."

"No, we gotta show Professor that one move," she insisted.

"What? You better not be talking about that thing we did when we were twelve."

"Of course I am." She pinpointed Byleth's location, immediately heading that way. "Come on, it was super fun. And it'll be just as effective as any attack if we change it up a bit."

He chased after her. "'Change it up' how?"

"You'll see~" she sang with a giggle. "Just follow my lead!"

He couldn't imagine this going well at all. That little stunt they did years ago seemed cool at the time, but now it was kinda stupid. Then again, where's the harm in trying?

"Hey Professor!" (y/n) called across the field as she and her companion neared an enemy in Byleth's sight. "Watch this!"

Sylvain followed her to the target of her scheme. He stopped when she did, getting down low enough for her to climb onto his shoulders. Holding her steady, he got back up and resumed the advance.

When she started pelting them with spells, he halted again, letting go of her legs so she could stand on his shoulders. She'd trained for these things all her life, leaving her with incredible balance and flexibility.
