Future Barry pov
I couldn't bring myself to tell her the truth. I wanted to tell her as soon as she walked through the door but instead I decided to lie to her.
I let her believe that it was Barry who kissed her.
But I just couldn't tell her that it was me. I had to let her think that Barry was the one who kissed her; that it him who admitted his feelings.
The guilt is eating me alive. I know that she too felt guilt about kissing 'him' or well me...but I also know a part of her was happy that even though things weren't excatly ideal, it was enough for her.
I don't know how to tell her that it wasn't Barry that she talked too.
I just had to try and salvage what I had left. I couldn't just let my family slip away. I had to do something.
It was a desperate and irrational idea but I was scared of loosing Caitlin and loosing my family.
I don't know how to tell her. But I know I have to.
"Hey Barr" Caitlin said sweetly interrupting my thoughts.
"Hi" I mumbled guiltily.
"Are you okay?" She asked worriedly.
"Caitlin I kissed you" I blurted out before I even had the chance to think about it.
"In a dream?" She chuckled lightly thinking I was making fun of her.
"No...I-I kissed you in the alley...and in Joe's house. It was me" I confessed pulling my gaze away from her.
"Wh-what?" She stuttered in shock.
"I'm sorry. I was gonna tell you yesterday but I couldn't bring myself to do it" I called out desperately.
"Tell me you're joking" She demanded helplessly.
"I wish this would all be a bad dream" I mumbled under my breath.
"A bad dream? Seriously!? What is wrong with you!? How could you do that!!" She exclaimed angrily glaring at me.
"I'm sorry Cait—" I tried apologizing but she was far too upset to listen.
"Do not 'Cait' me right now Allen! You're "sorry"? Sorry for what? For lying to me or for screwing up my life?" She yelled angrily.
"What's going on?" We could hear Dawn groggily ask rubbing her eyes presumably from sleeping.
"Your father and I are just talking go back to bed" Cait said trying not to sound harsh but failing miserably.
"It sounds a lot like arguing to me" Dawn replied shaking her head at the both of us.
"Go back to your room speedy" I said softly while Caitlin nodded in agreement.
"Please" Cait and I added in sync making Dawn chuckled at us while Caitlin just gave me yet another glare.
"Cordiality never fails" She said walking back upstairs and closing her door softly.
"What the hell were you gonna do when I went to confront Barry over what happened last night!" She sneered lowly trying to keep her voice down for Dawn's sake.
"I wouldn't have let you do that" I reasoned honestly.
"Oh well in that case am I suppose to thank you?" She exclaimed lifting her hands on the air in a frantic manner.
"Of course not" I replied shaking my head.
"It was a rhetorical question" She snapped back rolling her eyes angrily.
"Caitlin–" I said meeting her eyes for the first time since she walked in the kitchen.
"No you listen to me. My feelings for you are not something you can just bargain like some sort of game. You had the audacity to lie to my face yesterday, telling me crap about being such a gentleman in the future, while being such a JERK here" She said angrily shoving me back forcefully.
"I know" I mumbled shamefully.
" 'You know'? What else do you know? Huh? Maybe if you thought a little longer you would know that maybe you just ruin the tiniest chance you ever had of ever getting your family back" She said glaring at me with a vulnerability in them. She shifted her body to walk away before I desperately reached out for her.
"Cait please don't do this" I said desperately grabbing a hold of her arm.
"I am Caitlin to you and you did this to me" She claimed ripping her arm from my hold, grabbing her purse and car keys from the counter and walking right out.
