“Do you know what’s going on at Mars Industries?” Kyle always had information she didn’t plus Sadlyeen was tired of waiting and hearing nothing.
It had been a week for crying out loud. A week could be long under the right circumstances. No call, no text not even a damn email.
Beginning to feel insignificant she hated it. They were just playing - for lack of a better word - it seemed.
“Yeah, there was a problem with numbers in one of their big departments. Someone has been getting a cut that isn’t theirs. Michael may have a lawsuit on his hands soon. From what I know, he is bringing down wrath over there. He can’t believe that shit went down under his nose. And why are you asking me, I’d think you know.”
“I haven’t heard from him for seven days.”
“Oh honey, I know how much waiting messes with you.” Kyle gave her a fond look. She'd almost called him so many times she lost count. How many texts had she typed, almost sent then deleted? The answer, too many. Obsessive much!
Why had she thought ‘reconnecting’ with Michael would be a good idea.
It become harder to keep up the she-hated-him mantra every day. She had missed him over the years and now more that she was… reconnected. The past week had been one of the most draining she’d ever had.“You need me to hang?”
“No Kyle, go. Might as well carry my phone because I may press dial.”
He chuckled, “if there is one thing that never fails me it’s your strength, two things actually, your ego too.”
“Go, have fun.”
“You could come with.”
“Not today, I’m not feeling it.”After Kyle left, she tried going back to sleep. She gave up an hour later waking up hot and bothered, again.
Damn Michael Greene. She couldn’t even distract herself with house chores. Housekeeping had been there the day before; there was food so no cooking. What to do? What to do? Not in the mood to read she settled Kyle’s room.
There had to be something there. Although practically a privacy vigilante, her comfort with Kyle surpassed any restraint. Well, he never minded but to be fair she let him into her space too.
He also almost always had something new. She started at his closet. Rolling her eyes then laughing a little. There on the accessories section were two woolen scarfs. One was the light kind of grey the other a very cute kind of pink that almost hurt her eyes. They were so soft. The right size and make that they could be worn when during cold or warm weather. Attached was a note:
I saw these; they were just two so I got them for us. I would’ve given them to you but I knew you’d come rummaging in here soon. Pink one Sade, grey’s mine. We should wear them on the same day and spend it together. Tabloids will eat that up.
Pink one.
There are also a few things in there you can take. You’ll know them when you see them.Gee she would, it was cute.
She knew which ones to take because they had stickers to indicate. She left the room wearing a hoodie she'd liked when Kyle bought it, he wore it once. She also had socks, a flannel and running shorts. Running did not make her list of go to workouts but she’d wear them in the house.Sadlyeen understood full well that her friendship with Kyle exceeded conventional borders. Normal standards refuted that kind of reliance on another person even if they loved each other.
Her dependence on him also brought her independence. Kyle brought stability into her life. Her rock. He was…
What was that noise?Door bell?
Door bell!
Sadlyeen dumped her find in her closet hurrying to open the door. Probably Melanie here to drag her out on some venture. She always had so much energy, even on Sunday’s when Sadlyeen preferred to stay in. It would be a great distraction so she opened the door a full smile on her face.
She froze.
