Sadlyeen pumped the gas and pressed her foot down on the peddle. The vehicle lunged forward increasing speed while her body ensconced back against the driver's seat from the sudden force.

A few sequential glances at the rearview mirror raised her suspicions as the headlights behind her followed for a while. Despite the turns and connecting routes on the road, the car appeared to head in the same direction as hers.

Had she picked up a tail from their last mission?

She had no idea where Dale was but couldn’t worry about that then. They'd separated earlier in the escape so she hoped he had better luck. Taking no chances, Sade kept her speed up.

Melanie probably slept soundly at home not included in their current venture. The thought made her long for her comfy queen-size bed for she hadn't slept at all.

Dale's mysterious connections helped them thus far but couldn't get exact information on Barbara Forster. The woman was a ghost. Mind back on the road, she switched gears and sped further.

She no longer see the other vehicle but refused to doubt her instinct. A woman's intuitiveness and all that. Even if it was a false alarm, she would not take any chances.

All of a sudden, sirens blared behind her and red lights flashed as a cop car emerged from a hidden spot on the deserted road. Definitely overspeeding she ignored the obvious signal to stop and accelerated.

Sadlyeen couldn't leave a trail or record in the area, especially by getting a ticket. Neither would she entertain questions by an officer of traffic law that she didn't feel like answering.

The blue and reds lights disappeared from view as she left the police car behind but the sirens suggested they weren't far behind. It was a few minutes to sunrise so the darkness that lingered in the early morning wouldn't hide her much longer.

Getting to the outskirts of the town Sade veered off the main road driving a short distance to an abandoned petrol station. She eased the car to the back where she found an old garage. The structure appeared to be hanging on its last nails threatening to fall at any time.

She turned of the engine, got out of the car and opened the boot. From a tiny hole in the timber wall, she watched as the police sped by without a glance at her hiding spot.

Glad for the momentary escape Sade used a fingernail to prop up an edge from the left back light. Pulling gently the paint came off easily like paper to reveal a subtle blue underneath.

Working fast she removed the rest of paint from the entire car transforming it to a glossy blue vehicle from black. They had falsified the number plates which thankfully could be peeled off as well to show a different plate.

She stripped off her leather and donned a summer dress and light sweater from a bag in the boot. She also put on short pumps dressing faster than ever before.

Finding what appeared to have been a bin, she collected the peeled paint, clothes and shoes shoving them inside. Sadlyeen poured a full bottle of lighter fluid and set the contents ablaze after tossing the bottle into the trashcan.

The fire consumed everything in minutes leaving behind black ash that she scattered under nearby bushes. Returning the bin to its original place she double checked around and got back into the seemingly different car.

Sadlyeen switched the car into convertible mode, tied a scarf around her hair and put sunglasses on her face. As she drove back onto the road, the sun had already risen shining brightly on her face. She took the right turn towards the same way the police had gone.

In the town, she passed several patrol cars by unperturbed by the occasional glance because the cops didn't suspect a thing. From another’s outlook Sadlyeen appeared to be a woman out and about in the morning enjoying the sun on the way to do what women set out to do. She drove through the town and out on her way back home but first had to make a short stop.
