To be perfectly clear here, dogs are absolutely wonderful. They're adorable, they protect you, they're soft. They also can be there when humans don't want to interact with you because you're too sad or because you're— anyways.
You see, Jade absolutely hated dogs. And like— they're cute. Like, she loved seeing them wag their tails, do tricks, maybe even pet them when she wants to but to own them? No thank you.
"I can't believe that the two of you literally have two dogs each! How the hell do you live in peace?" Jade mumbles as Oscar, one of Jesy's dogs, starts pawing her calf, Leigh shrugs, "Oh, come on, they're not that bad, are they, Jes?" Leigh calls out to her roommate as the other girl chuckles.
"They're actually the ones who remove our stress, to be honest." She answers truthfully as Jade makes a face of disdain, "Weirdos." She whispers under her breath as she shakes her head. "Look, Jade, all we're asking is for you to take Harvey on a walk. He really likes you and he won't go unless it's you."
"Lee, I literally threw a chip at him yesterday." She deadpans, the other girl dismisses it, waving her hand as she hands her the leash and the keys to their flat, "We're bringing the other dogs to the groomer then my sister would pick them up. Harvey, however, he's yours for the rest of the week."
"I don't get paid enough for this." Jade exclaims through gritted teeth, pouting and crossing her arms as Jesy sends her a smile, "He just sleeps, eats and farts! You'll be fine!"
"But why can't you take him with you?" She whines, throwing a tantrum as her frowns grow bigger, Leigh sighs, "Because he's perfect and he's just as lazy as you are. If we left Oscar or Reggie with you, we know you'd abandon them. If we left Kyro, however," She trails off, wincing a little as Jade's gaze landed on the mutt.
"I would rather jump off of a cliff while doing a high note than to be left alone with that— that thing!" She yells, jumping up the couch when he moves closer to her. "Get him away!"
"Alright, Poopey. Try not to poop your pants. He won't bite." The ginger laughs, taking the leash and walking closer to the brunette when Jade hides behind the couch, cowering in fear as she shrieks. "Are you kidding, Jes? He'd eat me alive!"
Jesy didn't listen and started making fun of her, getting closer and closer until Leigh stopped her. They left her alone after that, much to the ginger's demise. So, the only thing she could do was to put her hands on her hips as she stared at the pug lying down on the staircase. "Guess it's just you and me now, huh?"
The dog could only release what she could imagine as a sigh as he looked up to her. Yeah, maybe her week alone with the mutt won't be bad.
It takes her a few hours before she realizes that she has to take him out for a walk. Hesitantly, she sighs, staring at him with a frown before taking his leash reluctantly, securing it around his neck as Harvey happily drags her outside the flat.
The day was bright, actually, the sun was out, the summer breeze was well, breezing past her, it wasn't too hot and it wasn't too cold either. It was the perfect weather.
"You know what, Harvey? You're not that bad, aren't you?" Jade grins, looking down at the pug as he lets his tongue out, his snout forming a smile-like look that it makes Jade's heart melt.
So far it was great. They took pictures together, they ran, they played with other dogs and honestly, everything would've been perfect if this snotty kid on a bike didn't crash into Jade. Wanting to save Harvey from the collision, she lets go of the leash, falling down on the ground as the milkshake she was drinking spilled on her.
She wipes her eyes, groaning, giving the kid, which turned out to be a teenager, the finger, flipping him off as she tries removing the sticky, cold liquid off of her.
