"Hey Dean." I heard as I came in the house from work. It was Dad.
"Hey." I set hung up my coat and stepped into the kitchen. I pulled out the fixings for spaghetti.
"Spaghetti alright for dinner?"
I heard a grunt and assumed it meant yes.
"Where's Sammy?" I asked.
"In his room talking to Jess."
I headed to his room just to see if he wanted to invite Jess over for dinner.
He said he'd ask her but he wasn't sure about it.

About twenty minutes later I called out for dinner. Jess wasn't coming. Sam made his way downstairs laughing and we eventually got him to hang up the phone.
"What was so funny?" Dad asked.
"Oh nothing. Just something that happened in school."
"You want to tell us about it?" He ventured further.
"No Dad. You wouldn't get it."
We ate our food in silence.
"So uh Dean, I need your help." Dad said out of nowhere.
"Yeah sure. What with?"
"Well it's a case I'm working over in Michigan." I internally sighed.
"You'd be gone for a couple weeks, and there is no pay, but I really do need your help."
I knew it. I knew he would bring up work while visiting. Sam and I didn't speak about it cuz we didn't want to deal with it. Dad knew this too.

It wasn't like he robbed banks, it was worse. There were things out there in the real world. Scary, horrible things. Demons, monsters, vampires, werewolves. You name it, it's probably out there. And Dad? Dad hunted them.
Sam didn't know. Not yet. Dad and I agreed to keep it secret from him. We wanted him to have an actual future.
Dad wanted me to join him. I didn't want to. I really didn't want to. I had before but nothing major.
"No." Was all I said.
"Dean, I really need your help."
"No means no."
"Goddamnit Dean. Why? Why the fuck can't you do this?"
"You know why. I have a life here and I don't want to get involved with your work."
Sam looked at us confused.
"Wait, wait. Why does it matter Dean?" Sam asked. "Dads just like, a salesman, right?"
"Sam stay out of this. I'm leaving." I said. I grabbed my jacket and cars keys slamming the door behind me.

I drove to Harvelle's but I didn't plan on spending my night there.
"Ellen." I called out.
"Over here Dean."
"I need you to stop by later to check on Sam and Dad. I won't be there. I'm going out for the night. I won't make it back tonight so."
"Everything alright at home?" She asked.
"I don't know. I guess it is. It's just Dad tried getting me in on a job and he didn't understand what no meant. I had to get out."
"Well you go have fun tonight ok. I stop by with Jo and hang out with em for a little bit."
"Thanks, Ellen." I said and started to leave. My path was blocked by a guy. Trench coat guy. I noticed his eyes were red and puffy. I moved right as he moved left, which was the exact same direction. We did it again until I took a step back. He started to walk past but I purposely stopped him.
"Hey man, you alright?" I asked.
He looked up at me, tried to talk, but started to cry.
"Woah, woah, man. Chill take a breath." I stared at him awkwardly and turned to give Ellen a quizzical look. He shrugged and went to other customers. The guy was violently shaking now.
"Come on, let's sit down." I said and leaded him to a secluded booth.
"Jo! Over here. Two beers please." I called out. "Dude, chill. Come on. Breathe." I patted his back awkwardly. I don't know why I was with him still. I guess I felt like I made him cry.
