Fubuki did not sleep.

And when he did sleep he had a nightmare.

He remembered being back at Begioma. Everyone was laughing and having a good time including Fubuki. In his dream Fubuki had beaten Ranjiro and almost Aiger.

Fubuki even cracked a joke, making everyone talk about him. But then as everyone was laughing a low angry voice crept up behind Fubuki.

"If Fubuki Sumiye is so good then why is he running away from me."

The blood drained from Fubuki's face and his heart started beating.

Fubuki turned around face to face with Theodore Glass. He was paralyzed with fear and his throat was dry. He couldn't even speak and it was hard to talk.

Fubuki's friends vanished and he was left alone with Theodore. He was smiling so big he almost looked angry.

"I'm going to find you Sumiye and when I do you will truly know the definition of pain."

Theodore's voice felt right next to Fubuki's ear even though he was standing far away.

Theodore started laughing and that's when Fubuki woke up.

He didn't gradually wake up; he immediately sat up heavily breathing.

He looked over at the clock, it was a bit early in the morning but considering Fubuki was already awake he got up anyways.

The hallways were quiet this time of day which made Fubuki only more uncomfortable.

Going to the cafeteria there weren't that many people up. In fact some were just sitting and talking. But there was someone Fubuki wasn't expecting to be there: Vincent Bates.

Based on what Fubuki heard Vincent was a more lone wolf blader with his own agenda. Getting up Fubuki had no clue why he was doing this, perhaps it was guilt or sympathy but he sat down across Vincent.

"Hey." Fubuki said sitting down

"Hey." Vincent said not looking up.

Fubuki felt awkward not knowing what else to say. He was about to get up when Vincent said:

"I heard you were with Valerie the other day."

"Yeah, we had a fight." Fubuki said sitting back down.

"What happened?"

"She revealed her true intentions and it turns out she's been corrupted for a long time. I guess I'm just...."

"Disappointed?"

"Yeah how'd you know."

"I'll let you in on a little secret, between the two of us I'm older than her. But when I started blading she saw how well I was doing and got into it. After she beat me, she left."

Fubuki nodded, relating to his situation.

"I'm sure you understand considering that's how Suoh treated you."

"Yeah, I've got a question. I thought you were the one who's resonance was corrupted or that's at least what I heard."

Vincent chuckled a little to himself.

"Here I'll tell you wha, I'm in the market for a training partner. If you stop by later I'll explain everything."

Vincent got up and left the room leaving Fubuki confused.

What Fubuki didn't understand was Vincent was acting like a whole different person. It almost seemed like Vincent was the nice one.... What was going on? Fubuki needed answers.

After breakfast Fubuki met Vincent in the training room.

It was your simple room with the stadium and TV but that was about it. If Fubuki would have to guess they probably spent more money on the suites than the training room.

"I'd figure you'd come." Vincent said launching.

"So about your sister..."

"Valerie, Valerie, Valerie. Yeah she wasn't always corrupted but at one point something changed. In order to hide it she took control of me to hide the blame. Once everyone thought she was fine they all started hating me. That was until a couple of days ago."

"What happened?"

"She tried to recruit me, tried to brainwash me too while she was at it. But based on what happened I didn't give in. She told me everything."

"I'm sorry I know how that feels." Fubuki said looking away.

"She did something to you? Didn't she?"

"Yeah, except I don't know how to fix it."

"That's how she is a siren, she lures in people with her act and then it's too late or should I say Vaughn does that."

"Yeah it's getting worse everyday and I don't know how much longer I have until..."

Vincent kneeled down putting his hand on his shoulder.

"You know worrying about it isn't going to get you anywhere. You see worrying about it and giving in is basically letting Valerie win but we both know you don't want that. So that's why we have to keep fighting. Even when I was under her control I kept fighting."

He launched.

"Even when everyone is missing."

He launched again.

"Even when it feels like they're winning."

And again.

"And especially when all hope seems lost. Because that's what makes a true blader. Fighting to the end."

He launched one more time. Except this time it was more graceful.

"Thanks for the advice."

"Anytime."

For the rest of the afternoon the boys practiced together.

Now unlike his sister Fubuki felt like he could trust him. There was something different about him. Something friendlier.

After practice it was nearing late afternoon, at this point Fubuki was starting to get hungry. But as he was going get a snack he bumped into Valt.

"Hey Valt where are you going?"

"They just annoced the lineups c'mon!"

Dragging Fubuki the boys went over to Valt's room to watch.

Since today's were battles for the younger kids the older kids like Fubuki and Valt hadn't started battling yet. So they postponed the battles until tomorrow. However the lineups were posted today.

16 bladers in all, and about two sets of battles a day.

Luckily for Fubuki he was battling the day after so he had plenty of time to practice.
