I rush into the hospital and go straight to the receptionist. "I'm searching for my wife, Grace Cullen?"
The lady tells me the room number once the last number leaves her mouth I rush to the stairs skipping the elevator and to Grace's room.
"I need Paul." I hear Grace's voice sob as I open the door to find her a sobbing mess.
"What happened?" I ask rushing to her side when Sue gets up from the bed.
"Savannah wasn't crying. I don't know if she wasn't breathing they took her and left no explanations. Can you call Carlisle?" She asks desperately. I nod my head and grab her phone out of her purse.
I click on Carlisle's number and he answers on the first ring.
"Grace? What's wrong?"
"It's Paul. We need you at the hospital. Something happened with the baby and we don't know if we will get answers." I say taking her trembling hands into mine.
"On my way."
"Bring Esme." Grace says before he hangs up.
"I will." He says to me before we both hang up. I sit down on the bed beside her and kiss her hands that are shaking crazily.
"What do you need? Anything?" I ask after a few minutes of me studying her.
"I have a bag of skittles in my purse." She says with a shaky breath. I take her purse from Sue and pull out a share size bag of skittles. "And can you get the Savannah's blanket?"
"Of course." I kiss her forehead and grab the blanket from the baby bag. I hand it to her when Esme knocks on the door and walks in with a smile. I try my hardest not to tense up when the sickly sweet smell comes off of Esme's skin.
"Oh my sweet girl." She says walking to Grace's other side. "Carlisle is getting answers and taking care of Savannah."
"Is she okay?" Grace asks and I look at her hoping she has some answers.
"I don't know yet. Carlisle will come and give us answers soon." She says in a soft voice. "The family is all outside. Edward is with Bella."
"Did you see her?" Grace asks in a whisper. Esme takes Grace's hands into her cold ones.
"She's got almost every type of machine connected to her. I think they are trying to get her heart rate up. I could hear her heartbeat but it was faint." Grace takes her hands from Esme's and starts hyperventilating. "Grace?"
"Hey." I say getting Grace's attention on me. "Look at me. Look at me. Breath Grace. In and out."
She watches as I start to breath coaching her to get here's under control. "That's my girl. Don't freak out baby."
A few minutes pass of Esme, Grace, and I making small conversation as Sue, Kim, and Emily leave to go spend time with their loved ones before tomorrow. There's a knock at the door after Grace and I started a game of UNO. Carlisle walks in with a satisfied expression.
"So?" Grace asks hoping for good news.
"We have her stable. When she was born she had the umbilicals cord was wrapped around her throat. When they cut it and got it off her neck she wasn't breathing on her own, but her heart rate was trying to catch itself up. That girl is a fighter." Grace sighs in relief as I stand up and shake his hand.
"Thanks, Carlisle." I say sincerely.
"Anytime Paul." He says shaking my hand. "We will roll you into the room where she is at. There's a bed waiting for you."
"Thank you so much Carlisle." Grace says with a smile and a new wave of tears flowing down her cheeks.
"Anytime my daughter." He says walking to her and kissing her forehead.
Jasper walks in with a wheel chair. He nods at me when I help Grace get settled into it.
"I'm ready." She says as I grab her purse and the UNO cards. Esme grabs the other bags.
"Let me take some." I say to her taking the bigger bag with the portable cot in it. I push her to the room where they are setting Savannah up. Grace shakes with another round of tears as she sees Savannah connected to almost every type of machine there is.
I bite my bottom lips as tears flow down my cheeks at the sight of my daughter in a dome for who knows how long.
