The following morning, they returned to the house. There'd been a death just as they were about to close up the case. So now the trio were walking up to the house where there was a police car and an ambulance.
"What happened?" Dean asked a man as Callum held his hand, looking around.
"A coupla cops say that poor girl hung herself in the house." The man responded, nodding to a stretcher with a body on it.
"Suicide?" Sam questioned.
"Yeah." The man nodded. "She was a straight A student, with a full ride to UT too. It just don't make sense." He then walked off, leaving the Winchester's alone.
"Whaddaya think?" Sam asked his brother.
"I think maybe we missed something." Dean replied.
"Daddy, I'm hungry." Callum whined, tugging on his father's hand.
"We'll stop and get you something and then we'll come back, all right, kiddo?" Dean suggested, looking at the boy, who eagerly nodded.
Callum was forced to stay in the motel room whilst Sam and Dean returned to the house, but Callum wasn't mad. It gave him a chance to work on his powers without revealing himself to his father and uncle.
Currently, the boy was trying to make Cosmo float. The closest he'd gotten was making the Fox float a couple of centimetres off the bed before falling back down almost immediately. He was getting pretty frustrated that he couldn't do it.
His blue eyes stared at the fox as he tried. And then they glowed golden, the fox rising slightly before falling.
He yelled out in frustration, which resulted in Cosmo flying across the motel room. He heard the thud of the stuffed animal hitting the wall and turned, eyes wide.
"Yes!" He exclaimed, rushing over to the toy with a wide grin on his face. He then held his hand out, guiding the fox up and into the air, managing it with ease. He'd done it. He'd made something heavier than a pen float. Aarin was going to be happy.
The motel room lock turned and Callum quickly grabbed Cosmo from the air, holding him close as Sam and Dean entered.
All the boy wanted was to tell his father about his accomplishment, but he couldn't. He wasn't allowed.
"Hi, Daddy!" The boy grinned, hiding his sadness.
"Hey, kiddo." Dean smiled, heading towards the boy and lifting him up. "Sorry for leaving you, bud. Just wanted to have an idea of what we were looking at before I brought you."
"It's ok." Callum assured him. "I was playing with Cosmo."
Dean chuckled, ruffling the boys hair before talking, "Now, it's late. You need to sleep."
"Awwww." The boy whined as Dean placed him onto one of the beds.
"Sorry, kiddo. That's the rules." Dean told him.
As Callum slept, Dean began talking to Sam about the case, but the chat quickly changed to the subject of Callum's safety.
"So, you wanna send him away?" Sam questioned. "Like Dad did with us?"
"He'll be safer with Sebastian and Natasha." Dean told him. "With us, he's constantly in danger of being killed. Remember that last case? He was kidnapped and broke his wrist. He's only six, dude."
"I think it'll damage him more if you send him away." Sam said. "He needs you to protect him. You're his father. He adores you."
"Guess you're right." Dean nodded, looking over at the boy. "But if he gets hurt again, I'm sending him to live with them."
He watched as the boy tossed and turned, beginning to whimper slightly as terrifying images appeared in his mind along with the loud, angry voices.
Dean rushed over, giving the boy a gentle shake to wake him. The boy awoke quickly, covering hid ears to stop the noise, to no avail.
"Hey-hey-hey-hey..." Dean said, pulling the boy close. "It's all right."
"Make them stop." Callum said softly, terror in his voice. "I don't like it. They won't stop arguing."
Dean looked to Sam, who was staring at the terrified boy as he panicked. It was horrible to see the young boy like this, especially when they didn't know why.
"Who are they, Cal?" Dean asked. "Do they have names?"
"I don't know." He sobbed. "They won't stop. I'm scared." His voice cracked slightly, terror in his small voice. Dean held him close, trying to comfort him. "They want to know where the abomination is... where the Nephilim is..."
"What the hell is a Nephilim?" Dean asked Sam, who somehow knew.
"The child of a human and an angel." Sam explained, though he had absolutely no clue why Callum was talking about this.
