"Do you have anywhere else to go tonight?" The officer asked Janet.
"My parents live 20 minutes away." I sighed.
"I suggest you go there until it's a little safer." He said, closing his notepad.
"I'm sorry, Ma'am." He said patting my shoulder and leaving
"Go pack a bag." I instructed Aliegha. She nodded and ran upstairs. I stood up and went upstairs with Nicky and sat him the bed as I packed a bag for myself.
"Janet?" Nicky sniffled
"Yes, Nicky." I responded tiredly.
"We go?" He asked
"Yes, we go." I let out a light chuckled. I grabbed his toys and his bag. I helped him off the bed and put his backpack on his back and went to Aliegha's room.
"Are you ready?" I asked her
"Yeah." She responded, getting off
the floor and carrying her bag. I walked downstairs and grabbed Nicky's cup and walked outside"Where you going?" Lesane asked me
"My parents." I responded dryly.
Lesane looked at O'Shea and O'Shea nodded his head, insisting he let her go. Lesane didn't like the fact that she didn't wanna talk about what just happened nor tell him that she was gonna leave. He watched her put Nicky in the car and herself and back out. He shook his head.
I sighed as I drove down the empty road. The ride was silent..Aliegha stared out the window while Nicky played with his toys.
"Mom?"
"Yes?" I responded
"Are we homeless?" She asked. The question took me a while to process
"No..well..not at the moment. We have somewhere to go." I said, turning into the gated community.
"We're homeless, no need to sugarcoat it." She rolled her eyes and continued looking at the window. I didn't have time for her attitude.
"Janet look at big house!" Nicky said.
"I see." I responded.
"Must be nice to have a House." Aliegha mumbled making me stop the car
"Aliegha, we aren't homeless. I don't know what's making you fail to understand but we are not homeless. Please, stop saying it." I scolded her and started driving until I reached my parents home. Latoya, Randy and Michael's car was there so I sighed. I parked and turned the car off and braced myself. I got out and grabbed Nicky and walked up to the porch and rung the doorbell. I heard footsteps and I really hoped it was Michael but no, it was Randy.
"Well look who decided to come and see her family." He said, acting surprised.
"Where's mother?" I asked, irritated.
"In the living room. Shall I escort you?" He joked. I pushed him out the way and walked into the living room where Michael, Latoya and Mother were sharing a glass of wine.
