(Like I said, I'm not very good at writing about special occasions so bare with me, this one might be a bit shit)
"Happy birthday dear Delilah!" A chorus of voices sing together as I come out with the cake held out in front of me"Happy to you"
I place the cake in front of Delilah, a big 1 candle in the middle of it. She smiles happily at everyone. Niall, Liam, Zayn and of course Harry and Louis. August stands behind her and looks down at her with a proud grin. We finish the song and August helps her blow the candle out and it's adorable. We clap our hands and she copies, smiling at all the familiar faces smiling back at her.
I cut everyone a piece and they all disperse to different parts of the room to chat and eat their cake. I watch Harry and Louis sit on the couch and eat the bright pink cake I made earlier. I turn to one of the few people still hanging around Lilah, Niall.
"Hey Ave!" He says with a smile
"Hey Nialler, it's good to see you" I say honestly, it's been a while, since my birthday in March.
"Yeah you too" He says and turns to Delilah, frosting all over her adorable face "It's good to see you again. You've grown so much!" He says sweetly to her.
"Hasn't she?" August agrees and keeps smiling at her, he's so happy being a dad.
"Happy Birthday little one" Liam says when he comes over and bends down to her height "Still can't believe she's 1" He says to me and I nod my head, eating my slice of cake.
"She's so cute" Zayn says and now all the boys but Louis and Harry are surrounding her, showing me and Delilah in complimenting and talking to her gently. I feel an arm around my waist and Harry is standing next to me.
"Happy birthday, angel" He says as he smiles at her cheeky face, smeared with frosty.
"You're filthy, Lilah" I sigh and start cleaning her face with a wipe, ready to take her out to the lounge room for photos and presents.
I sit with on the floor, Harry next to me and she crawls from me and over to him. Typical, she loves him. He grins and picks her up and into his lap, turning her to face the guests who all 'aww' at the same time at them. My parents are here, my mother smiles proudly at our little family, my father patting Matilda at his side.
Present after present we help her unwrap, August taking photos with my camera to put in album 20 years from now. Soon, we have wrapping paper all over the floor and everyone leaves to go outside, leaving me and Louis to clean it up and move all the gifts to the side of the room.
"Thanks, Lou" I say when we are finished.
"No problem, love" He says with a smile "I'm really happy for you. Harry never stops talking about to everyone he meets"
"Really?" I laugh and feel my cheeks turn red.
"Yeah, it's always 'Ave said this' or 'Look at this photo of Delilah" He mocks Harry with a smile, and just like that Harry comes in the room, Delilah on his hip.
"Not shit talking me, are we?" He asks with a smile.
"Don't swear in front of her, she's going to start talking soon and I don't need her repeating that" I sigh and he rolls his eyes then smiles.
"Sorry, Mum" He says and Louis laughs.
Harry leaves and disappears in the crowd and I follow him. Stopping to talk to as many people as I can and grabbing little pieces of food from tables and when I finally reach Harry, Louis is holding Delilah and they are still talking. It's like when he's here, H forgets about everyone else, including me. I guess this is how other people see me and Harry, besides they don't get to see each other in person much so I tun to leave them alone.
"Avery!" Harry calls out and I turn, he holds out his arms and I hug him gently and thank him for coming, even though I know he wouldn't miss it for the world, and he tells me that.
Louis passes me Delilah and I give her to my mother to hold, even though she would be crawling more and starting to learn to walk and not carried, it's only for one day. She gratefully accepts her and talks sweetly to her, walking away from us and into the house.
"I need some space" I tell Harry and he nods. We walk to a less crowded part of the garden and sit on the cold metal benches and sip our drinks and eat little pieces of food. Louis lights a cigarette and we talk for a while, about music and Christmas plans. We aren't having Christmas with the boys like last year, they all are being with their families. My mother comes back over to us with the Delilah, who looks grumpy.
"Think it's time for a nap" She suggests and I nod my head, taking her from her and Harry follows me up to her bedroom. I tuck her into the pastel pink bed sheets and tell Harry to try and get people to go home, it's approaching 5pm and people are still lingering around, mainly high school friends that begged for an invite because they knew celebrities would be here, and sure enough I come downstairs and see two girls chatting to Liam and Niall. They eventually leave, not without gentle persuasion from Zayn and Louis, and soon it's just 7 of us.
"It's been super fun, but I need to go" Niall says and wraps me in a warm hug "Tell Lilah I said happy birthday and I'll catch up soon"
And Niall leaves, followed by Zayn and Liam. I say my goodbyes to Louis before he walks out the door. Everyone is gone.
I sit on the couch and think about today. It was hectic but amazing. Harry sits next to me on the couch.
"Have a good day?" He asks and takes off his shoes.
"Yeah, you?"
"Fantastic. Like everyday with you" He says, kissing the side of my head and smiling.
"Harry, can you not be so adorable for one second?" I ask playfully.
He thinks for a second and says "No, I don't think I can"
"Well, work on it" I laugh.
"You love it" He says and I agree.
