"After lunch can we go swimming?" Delilah asks and I nod my head from the kitchen. "Yay!"
It's our last summer before she starts school and I'm going to miss having her around. Matilda is going to be lost without her best friend too. The two of them spend every second together. Tilly means so much to are family, she's the glue. When someone is down all she needs to do is jump on them and wag her tail happily. No one can not smile seeing a energetic black lab run up to you.
The front door opens and Harry comes in. He doesn't even need to say anything before Delilah realizes he is here.
"Harry!" She runs up to him and hugs him around the legs, he's tall and that's the only part she can reach.
"Hey, Lilah!" He squats down next to her and they start chatting away as I bring lunch out into the backyard and place it on the table. It's a sunny day, not a cloud in the blue sky.
I love days like these because they remind me of days on the beach with the boys, going swimming in Harry's pool and laying on towels in the sand just enjoying each others company. We've so many summers together, so many memories and inside jokes. I miss the days when we were 20 and on the floor hysterically laughing with the boys.
Harry and Delilah come out into the sun and H slides on some sunglasses "Will your husband be joining us?" He asks in a posh accent and I sit down a the table.
"Not today, unfortunately" I mimic his accent and Delilah laughs, pulling herself up at the table.
"When can I expect to see him again, your highness?" He smiles as he sits down next to me
"Tomorrow, good sir" I pick up my fork and start to eat.
"Swimming!" Delilah yells taking off her hat and walking towards our pool.
"Isn't there a rule about swimming after eating?" I ask Harry, teasing her and she tops dead in her tracks and turns around.
"Hmm, isn't it 15 minutes or something?" He joins in and laughs when Delilahs mouth drops open, looking between both of us.
"I'm not waiting" She crosses her arms over her chest and looks cross.
"Only joking, in you get!" I laugh and point to the pool, filled with stupid toys and surrounded by deck chairs. I'll never stop loving this house.
"Are you coming?" She asks and I sigh. It is pretty hot.
"If Harry is" I turn to Harry, he's sitting on the edge of the pool dipping his feet in and got distracted by a bird sitting on the fence after our last conversation.
"Hm?" Harry hums and turns around at his name.
"Are you swimming?" I ask him. Delilah grabs my hand and leads me towards the pool "Hold on Lilah I've got to get changed"
"Yeah, I will" He says and Delilah grins.
I walk upstairs and get changed and come back to find Delilah sitting on the inflatable yellow duck and Harry swimming behind, pushing her along in a lap around the pool. He stops when he sees me and laughs.
"Want a go?" He yells from the pool as I walk up to them, the ground is hot against my bare feet.
"No thanks" I sit on the edge so I'm not in their way.
"Come on, Mum!" Delilah giggles and I wonder how the hell she even got up there, or how they expect me to get up there.
"Yeah, come on Mum!" Harry copies and I roll my eyes.
