Aurora

I pushed through the open door, going inside the house, Harry pacing behind me. Odyessy was fighting with one of the police officers who was failing at attempting to put cuffs on her. My mother stood there watching with her arms crossed over her chest while my father talked to one of the other police officers.

"Let me go!" Odyssey screamed. Her words slurred.

"What's going on?" I panicked trying to get the officer to stop from cuffing her.

"Aurora get away from there, don't get involved. She needs to be locked up." My mother yelled.

I ignored her, struggling with the officer. "Please let me talk to her. I'm sure she did nothing wrong." I told him. He looked at me confused.

"Do you know her?" He asked

"Yes of course, she's my friend. May I ask what is going on?" I pulled Odyssey close to me. She slumped onto me, her weight almost bringing me down. The smell of alcohol reeked from her clothes.

"We got a call saying that someone broke into this house and was causing a ruckus." I looked back at my mother. She had an annoyed look on her face.

"Officer I can assure you that she did not break in. This was a mistake. I'll handle her if you just let me." I pleaded with him to not take Odyssey into custody. He looked over at his partner before nodding.

"This is your only warning. Get it together." He said directly to Odyssey. I apologized to them once more before they left.

"What is wrong with you? We're you really going to have her arrested?!" I yelled at my mother.

"She threatened me." My mother challenged, stepping closer to me.

"I did not! I came calmly looking for Aurora. You are the one that threatened to beat me with a bat!" Odyssey shouted. She stumbled towards my mother. I pulled her back. She was not in her right state. She was drunk out of her mind.

I sighed holding her closer to me. I couldn't believe my mother. This was extreme. Even for her. I turned to Harry. He stood by the door, watching with surprise and amusement.

"You can go," I told him. I helped Odyssey up the stairs with me to keep her away from my parents. I laid her on the bed.

I sat down next to her and rubbed her back as she buried her face in my pillow and started to cry. "Odyssey, tell me what's going on please."

She sat up. "My dad is sick. He's in the hospital and I just..." She stopped, choking on her tears.

"He's dying Aurora, and I can't bring myself to go see him. I can't do it. I can't see him like that. It pains me too much. I can't see my dad like that Aurora, he.. I don't want to face what's going to happen next. He's my life. My parents are my life and losing one of them so soon causes my heart to hurt so much." She was now full on sobbing. I wiped away my tears quickly before pulling her into a hug.

"I'm so sorry Odyssey. I can't even begin to imagine what you must be going through right now." This was huge. It was not what I expected to hear. Odyssey pulled away. She wiped her tears, but more continued to roll down her face.

"I found out the night after we came back from shopping. My mom had been calling me non stop. I was scared that something was the matter with my siblings. She wouldn't tell me what was wrong over the phone. All she kept saying was that she needed me to come home. I couldn't just go back home without a reason, she wouldn't tell me what was going on. That's when I decided to call my brother. He told me that my dad has been in and out of the hospital for two days now and this morning he wasn't responding. He's in a coma right now."

I found myself crying once again with her. My voice was caught in my throat. I couldn't speak.

"I told them that I wasn't coming home. I can't. Going home means seeing my dad lying in that bed, not responding, waiting until the days for whatever comes after. I can't handle that much pain Aurora." She began to sob once more. Odyssey buried her hands in her face, her cries getting louder.

"You have to go Odyssey. Please. I know this is hard for you, but you can't let your dad go without saying goodbye. You have to go see him. You need to be with your family right now." I tried talking her into going home all night. She wasn't changing her mind.

I watched her as she peacefully slept on my bed. This was horrible. Odyssey was very close with her family, especially her parents. I couldn't even bring myself to feel what she was feeling. He was fine weeks ago. Just two weeks ago she was telling me about their trip to Madrid during the semester break.

I went to my closet. I wiggled out of the red dress, hanging it back up. I pulled off the heels, wincing in pain. My ankle had twisted as I was running to the house then again when I was bringing Odyssey up the stairs. I ignored the pain. I went back to the bed laying down next to Odyssey. I pulled the covers over both of us. I cuddle next to her, pulling her close to me. She grabbed a hold of my arm squeezing it tightly. I closed my eyes in an attempt to fall asleep.
