Rewritten.

Fate is greater than love and hate. But what's greater than fate itself is prayer.

Adeelah only realized this after everything unfolded exactly as it did. She sighed and set down the pen she had used to inscribe those words—they would be her reminder whenever she fell short.

She smiled softly to herself, stretching her hand toward the nightstand to answer El Mustapha's call. She knew it was him from the ringtone. Her eyes flicked to the clock; the night had begun folding into its deepest hours, past ten.

Sliding the answer button, a grin spread across her face as his charismatic, radiant image filled the screen. She fluttered her eyes at him and said,

"Hey, Lilun dillaliya..."

El Mustapha laughed, his gaze locking with hers before he replied,

"You know, I think I should have called you dalleliya—strikingly beautiful. Subhanallah, Heer. Look at you, so cute... look at my wife, masha Allah."

Her heart softened, melting into a puddle of warmth and shyness. She didn't know how to respond. Her smile, shy like a new moon, lit her face; her eyes glistened with unshed tears. She brushed them back with her thumb and looked at him, and he smiled.

"Uhibbuki, Heer. Ina son ki. An ample love. Kinji?"

Adeelah pouted, tears spilling freely. "Stopppp," she whimpered.

El Mustapha smiled, undeterred, before speaking again,

"Okay, don't cry. I just called to let you know—you're my life itself."

"And oh... so you hijacked my life when you came, and now I live in a world that's only yours, Adeel. Will you spare my heart a little?"

Then, shifting into a voice mimicking her chauffeur, Salisu, he teased, "Adeelah is in love! Madly in love. I can't believe it."

Switching to a feminine tone, he added, "I can't what? I can't believe it!"

She burst out laughing. He laughed too, and soon the room sank into a quiet night, punctuated only by snores and distant dog barks.

"I'd like to take you on a car date tomorrow. Game?"

Adeelah smiled. "Innit."

"Don't go," she said, waving at him through the screen.

He rested his head on the pillow and waved at her as he began to drift into a sleep.

"I can't wait to see you tomorrow, good night Heer." He added and she just sighed and waved. He knew she wouldn't say a word after so he cut the call while waving at her.

Nafeesah.

Life is so unpredictable sometimes. Sometimes everything is clear as the day to us but we turn blind to it. For me, to blame life for where and what i was would be unfair. I knew the path i was treading on was dangerous but I couldn't stop my heart or Shahid. At first i was seeing it was nothing but what i forgot was a drop everyday could fill an ocean. Adeelah told me this but i never gave her words a deep thought.

When everything happened i was in shock and in remorse but I knew i would blame none but myself. Shahid would have been the first person i would point at but we had an equal share.

I looked at the lab test results in my hands and i found myself shivering. My blood pressure and protein level was so high that the doctor wouldn't allow me try labor. She said i should get my guardians because she would have to perform a c section on me. My eyes kept tearing up as i unzip my bag to fish out my phone.
