Chapter 14: The Rumors

It was the next morning and you had made your way down to the common room where you saw Cedic waiting for you as usual. "Hi Ced" you said smiling "Oh so we are doing nicknames now?" He said smugly  "Well I don't see why not" you replied "Well alright then i'll call you y/n/n" he replied "Sounds good to me" you said smiling up at him "Breakfast?" Cedric asked "Of course!" you replied grinning *Cedric held out his hand for you to hold and you made your way to the dining hall.*

You both had finished eating and it was time to go to your first class of the day, potions class. You and Cedric made your way there and once you arrived you took your seats, you sat down next to him and you got out your work from the previous day. After a few minutes of you and the class hard at work, you felt a pair of eyes watching you. You slowly looked up to Cedric intently staring at you.

"Yes?" you said to Cedric as you met eyes with him. "Oh uh n-nothing" Cedric got all red in his face and quickly returned to his work. *You crooked your head out of confusion* you returned to working on your books for a little while, when you heard all kinds of whispers and some snickering behind you. You turned around and saw multiple people staring at you and giving you disgusted looks. You then felt Cedric gazing at you again. *You slowly turned around and looked up towards Cedric when he simultaneously turned back to his books*, *You both continued this for the rest of the class period.*

Class had been dismissed and you had a free period so you returned to your common room. *Now what the bloody hell was that all about you thought.*  When you got there you pulled out your work and a book that you had been reading and you got to studying. While deep in your studies and thoughts you felt someone sit next to you, it was Cedric. He didn't say a word to you, in fact you both just sat there in an awkward silence of only the fire crackling.

After a few minutes of the awkward silence Cedric too got out his studies. It was starting to bug you that he hadn't been talking to you whatsoever the whole day. "What's wrong Ced?" you asked closing your book *he then glanced up at you* "Why would anything be wrong? I- i'm fine!" he said with a fake smile "You can tell me Ced." you replied putting a hand on his shoulder. In which he then shrugged it off "Ok something is defintiely wrong" you said.

"Well it's just.... that I can't help but notice that there is a rumor going around the school that *he paused* you and Malfoy have been hooking up" he said sighing and staring at the ground. *You stared at him in shock feeling bewildered, your mouth layed a gape as you struggled to find the words* "I- uh-" you splurt out "agh, I should've known" Cedric mumbled to himself. "What!? Nononononono!" you responded

"We most certainly have NOT been hooking up!" you said sternly "Now just where the bloody hell did you hear that lie from?!" you asked in shock "Nevermind it y/n" he replied sighing as he slowly got up from the couch "Cedric wait!" you said *he ignored you and packed up his things* "Won't you just listen to me Cedric" you said arising from your seat.

"What for? I should've known it, you two have more chemistry, you always did..." Cedric replied softly looking at the floor. "Stop it right now!" you took hold of his arm and put yourself in front of him "I have not been hooking up with Draco! I don't know why you would believe such a thing!" you said looking at him as he still stared at the floor.

*Cedric slowly met his eyes with yours* " I swear, on my life that we haven't been hooking up Ced, if anything I bet you he was the one who started the rumor in the first place to drive you away from me." you said placing your hands on either side of his face.

A small smile grew on his face from your reassurance "And I wouldn't lie to you either Ced" you said "I like that, *Ced* it makes me feel special" he said smiling as he took hold of your waist. *You smiled too and you leaned in, Cedric pulled you closer as you kissed* * you pulled apart after a moment* "I'm sorry for not believing you y/n/n" Cedric said giving you a hug.

"It's alright, I get it with everything that's going on at the moment" you said "Glad you understand" Cedric said pulling away from the hug. *you both walked your way to your dorm, holding hands as you depart from one another.

"Goodnight Ced"

"Goodnight y/n/n"

You and Cedric were now brought closer to each other than ever, the next few weeks were utter bliss, you spent every waking moment with one another, in fact you had completely forgot that Draco had even existed. But like most things, all good things must come to an end, you would have to confront Draco about the rumors eventually. You just didn't know when to do it.
