Chapter 23: The First Task

Cedric's POV:

"Hermione Hermione!" I shouted at the painting of the fat lady that was the entrance to the gryffindor tower. "Will you be quiet!" the fat lady snapped at me, "I'm sorry I just really need to see a friend" the fat lady rolled her eyes at me before I was about to shout again "Hermio-" I was cut off by Hermione opening the door and pulling me inside.

"Gah!" I let out as she yanked me in like a rag doll, she pulled me to the couch in the common room and told me to sit. I quickly did so as to not get yelled at, Hermione's hair was a wreck and she looked exhausted "Blimey what happened to you?" I asked.

"Nevermind that, I found the cure for y/n" she said staring at a book in her hands, I felt a rush of relief flow through me at her words "Really??! Well what is it!" I said excitedly. "It's really quite complicated and it won't be finished for at least a week or two," she said, preparing herself for Cedric's reaction.

"A week or two?" Cedric sighed "Well if we look at the brightside at least there is a cure and that you found it" he said reassuringly. Hermione grew a soft smile since she was surprised at his reaction. "Well what can I do to help?" Cedric asked, breaking the silence.

"Well all of the ingredients I can get from snape's potion storeroom so that won't be too big of a problem, all I need you to do is to continue to keep y/n away from Draco as best as you can." she said closing the spell book.

"Well that won't be too hard, y'know while i've been around y/n her eyes seem to grow less dilated and pink, it's like i'm regaining her memory just by being with her." Cedric said looking down with a warmth in his heart. "You must really like her then if just you being there is temporarily breaking out of the spell." Hermione with a soft smile.

I blushed at her words "I do really like her, a lot" I responded "Well let's not waste any more precious time, go get your girl" Hermione said tapping Cedric on the shoulder. And with that Cedric left the tower and went to find y/n.

While trying to find y/n all students were to report to the great hall for an announcement.

The great hall was packed with all the students seated with their houses, I spotted y/n and walked over to sit next to her "Hi Cedric!" she exclaimed with a smile, it gave me butterflies just to hear her say my name "Hi love!" y/n's was caught off guard at the nickname, I didn't realize what I had just said.

I braced myself for her reaction but she said nothing, instead she gave me a kiss on the cheek and said "Love, I like that, i'll call you Ced" she beamed. It was as if she remembered our nicknames for one another. "I like that name too," I smiled. The sweet moment was interrupted when Dumbledore's voice echoed through the hall.

"Sit down, please" he paused "Now the moment you've all been waiting for, the champion selection!" he turned around with his hand in the air as he put out all of the torches in the great hall leaving the room dark and eerie. He then walked up to the goblet and watched it intently.

Just then the fire turned from blue to red and shot out a piece of paper that Dumbledore caught. The silence in the hall was loud and we all were on the edge of our seats waiting for Dumbledore to call out the first name. He began to speak "The Durmstrang champion is Viktor Krum!" all the boys from Durmstrang cheered and were congratulating him.

As he stood up, shook Dumbledore's hand and walked to a room at the end of the hall. The fire then flashed red again before spitting out another piece of paper, Dumbledore spoke again "The champion from Beauxbatons, Fleur Delacour!" Everyone at the Beauxbatons table cheered for her as she stood up and shook Dumbledore's hand then disappeared into a room at the end of the hall.
