The Proposal

Chapter 15

We are finally sitting down to eat after the guys do the grilling and the women make the sides. I hand Kayla a glass of wine as I pull her chair out for her.

"Such a gentleman." She smiles at me.

"Not earlier he wasn't." I hear Rick whisper.

"Huh?" Kayla asks. I'm just relieved she never heard him.

"Oh nothing." Rick manages to say with a straight face and I shake my head as Rick and Lexi smile at me.

"Wow this looks amazing." Kayla says as she looks at the table full of food.

"You've not ate a lot in the last few weeks babe, try and eat what you can." Kayla smiles and nods at me. Out of the corner of my eye I see my parents look at each other then at Kayla with a look of worry.

"How is MaKenzie doing sweetheart?" Mum asks her.

"She's really good thanks. She got home today which is why we were cleaning the house up."

"It must be such a relief that she is alright." Dad says to her.

"I've never been so frightened in all my life." Kayla admits and when I look at her I see her shudder slightly.

"I can only imagine." Lexi says. "Nobody ever thinks their night is going to end like that."

"It was crazy, One minute we're all drunk having a great time then we were only in the house, what, a few minutes babe when you felt it?" I turn to Kayla and she nods in response.

"What do you mean?" Mum looks confused. It occurs to me that I hadn't told my family about the twin connection that night.

"Kayla felt the impact as it happened." I tell them.

"I'm lost." Rick says and from the looks on everyone's faces, he's not the only one.

"With Kayla and Kenzie being twins they can sometimes feel when something happens to the other." I explain to them.

"No way!" Rick's eyes widen and Kayla laughs while nodding her head.

"My older brother and sister are the same."

"So how does that work?" Lexi asks and Kayla shrugs.

"There's no rhyme or reason to it. It's usually when something significant happens to one of us."

"So did you get knocked out as well?" Rick asks and this time Kayla shakes her head.

"No. It's hard to explain but I felt like my head had been smashed off of something, then I felt dizzy and really sick."

"She was walking to the kitchen one second, then she wobbled, said she didn't feel right and started throwing up pretty bad. I was grabbing her some water when I got the call about the accident."

"Wow. Frankie, that must've been weird for you." Mum says.

"I just thought she was wasted until I got the call."

"So what kind of stuff do you sense?" Rick asks Kayla, he is totally fascinated.

"It varies. Mav got stomach cramps when Kinley started her period..."

"Fuck off!" Lexi yells out, cutting Kayla off. My girl sits there giggling at the look on Lexi's face.

"Honestly, it was really funny. My Dad took the piss out of him for weeks."

"That's crazy." Lexi says still holding the same facial expression.

"I know. I remember when Mav caught his girlfriend at the time cheating. Kinley was suddenly overcome with anger, Brax didn't know what the fuck was going on with her until he found out what happened." I watch as everyone just stares at us.
