The Proposal

Chapter 18

We are sitting around the table having a family breakfast before Kayla and I leave when we hear Kayla burst out laughing just outside the door. She decided to phone Kenzie and check in to see how she is. We wanted to wait until she joins us before eating.

"Would you listen to that laugh." Dad chuckles.

"She's got some set of lungs on her." Rick smiles.

"Don't we know it." Lexi smirks and I turn to my sister, giving her a warning look.

"Stop it!" I whisper shout at her. We've had a good weekend, I don't need it being ruined with Kenzie getting embarrassed because they can't keep their smartass comments to themselves.

"It's great to hear her laugh like that, she's sounded so down lately when I spoke to her on the phone." Mum says.

"Yeah it's great seeing her get back to her usual self." I smile. Dad goes to grab a piece of bacon and my Mum slaps his hand.

"Don't be rude, wait for Kayla!" She yells at him.

"Sweetheart I'm starving here, look at me, I'm fading away." He pathetically tries to plead his case.

"Don't be so bloody dramatic." Mum laughs at him. Just then Kayla comes walking through with her face bright red and tears streaming down it.

"Baby what's wrong?" My initial panic at her crying eases when she sits down and shakes her head laughing.

"Well I definitely want to hear this." Lexi smiles.

"Oh my god, you'll never believe what happened." Kaylas says as we all start grabbing food and filling our plates.

"Is Kenzie alright?" I ask her.

"Well that depends." She laughs.

"On?"

"I don't think her and G wanna face the family anytime soon." She starts hysterically laughing again and I can only smile at her. I've missed this.

"What have they done now?"

"Aww babe." She can barely get her words out for laughing. This has to be good.

"Jeez Kayla, you've got me in suspense now." Rick smiles at her. We give her a minute to compose herself and then she continues.

"Well everyone and I mean everyone was at their house yesterday to see how they were."

"I bet G loved that!" I blurt out.

"Well Kenzie did say he didn't look too happy when he walked in."

"So who's everybody?" Mum asks.

"Aunts and Uncles..." I start to explain.

"My siblings, their kids and my parents." Kayla says.

"You're looking at 20 plus people." I explain.

"Wow!" Lexi says looking surprised and I raise my eyebrows and nod my head.

"Yup, wow is right."

"So anyways," Kayla continues. "Brad and Leanne started arguing, apparently her friends were caught spying on Brad changing..."

"Brilliant!" I chuckle. "So Leanne is 15 and Brad is 17." I tell my family and they all nod.

"Needless to say, words were being said that Jessica and Jayden started asking about..."

"Jessica and Jayden are 2 years old." I inform everyone, Mum smiles at me as a thanks.

"Mav moved the kids upstairs to watch tv. Everything was fine until the kids started shouting about. Jayden was upset that Brody broke his sword."
