Chapter 22

Sophie's POV

Once Sophie left the room she saw Mr. Forkle and Fitz having a staredown and Councillor Alina and Oralie were looking at them with confused looks.

Whatever you're thinking, save it. I won't argue with this stuff and I promise not to tell anyone on one condition. Sophie transmitted to Mr. Forkle.

What would that be?

I want to get to know my biological father so can we stay in touch?

Mr. Forkle rubbed his temples and nodded a few seconds later.

"What happened?" Councillor Alina asked, looking very disturbed.

"Stuff that I don't want to talk about," Sophie responded with obvious distaste in her words.

Oralie tried to reach out to Sophie, but she backed away with a scowl. Councillor Alina knew something was up, but she said nothing as they stopped at Ruy's cell. Righty opened the cell to let Councillor Alina in. Sophie knew not to listen so she put her hands over her ears as the guards closed the door.

Hey Sophie? Fitz transmitted.

Yeah?

I'm sorry about what happened there. If you need to talk I will always be here.

Thanks Fitz. I'm fine, Gethen or should I say Amon, agreed that we should keep in touch.

I don't know how that's gonna go. When we do Cognate training can we talk about what happened in there?

Maybe...now get out of my head!

Jeez! You really are the Lady Fos-Boss.

Sophie snapped back to reality. The door opened and Councillor Alina stepped out and Sophie and Fitz went in. Ruy looked like Gethen, slumped up against the wall and humming. Sophie turned her Enhancing on and grabbed Fitz's hand. Fitz placed his fingers on Ruy's temples and they pushed their consciousness into Ruy's mind.

"BLACK SWAN!!" Fitz transmitted, "NEVERSEEN!!"

A lot of memories surrounded them and when Sophie got all the information they needed Sophie and Fitz snapped back to reality. Sophie and Fitz stepped out of Ruy's cell and the Goblin guards rushed them to the next 10 Neverseen members and Trix.

"Is it possible to die in your brain?" Fitz asked as he sat on the grass in front of Lumenaria.

"No, but it should be a thing," Sophie responded.

"Oh stop being babies," Councillor Alina sneered.

"Try doing what we did and we'll see who the real baby is," Fitz taunted.

"HOW DARE YO-" Councillor Alina started, but was interrupted by Mrs. Lying Curls.

"We should discuss what we learned from these prisoners," Mrs. not-my-mom said.

"Agreed," Mr. Forkle chimed in.

You go first Alina. Fitz transmitted.

Call me Councillor Alina.

Whatever.

Fitz, be quiet we are trying to make sure Keefe doesn't rot.
