Chapter 9

Sophie's POV

It took a moment for everyone to find Wraith. He was so shocked that he was invisible for the rest of the day. When they finally found him Mr. Forkle told him to leap home and that he was going to fill him in on everything Jolie would say. Wraith agreed and leaped away. Jolie started explaining about how she escaped the fire. It turned out that Jolie had conjured up water and extinguished some of the fire to create a path so she could get out of her house. When Jolie was making it out she got burned on her left side of her face and fainted from blood loss in the grass outside. Gethen had found her there and erased her memories and fed her fake ones instead. She woke up and believed she had worked with the Neverseen all along. When she finished everyone looked devastated. Squall and Granite decided to pick up Prentice and put him in one of the guest rooms in Havenfield and everyone quickly surrounded him. Sophie gave Prentice a thick notebook.

"Here," she said, "Sometimes it's easier to make sense of memories when you project them."

"Thanks," Prentice said weakly.

Mr. Forkle cleared his throat, "Mr. Endal, will you help your father home to get some rest?" Wylie nodded his head, held his father's hand and leaped home.

Everyone else left after that and Fitz was about to step into the light when Mr Forkle asked if he could stay at Havenfield for a few extra minutes. He agreed and Mr. Forkle called Sophie over.

"Yes?" Sophie asked.

"Jolie has agreed to a probe to see if we can find anything in her Glimmer memories, and I would like you two to do the probe. Be ready in 2 days. So tomorrow I suggest you should do some Cognate training," Mr. Forkle explained.

"I guess so," Sophie whispered remembering her promise to Fitz.

"YES!" Fitz shouted, pumping his fist in the air.

"You kids are always so loud," Mr Forkle grumbled as he leaped away.

When Sophie got back to her room Iggy started squeaking like crazy. When Sophie came over to scratch his chin she noticed he was now snow white. She smiled now knowing why Dex was so close to Iggy. The next morning Sophie stepped into Vertina's sight (Jolie and Sophie had agreed to share it the night before)

"Geez, You look like a garbage bag!" Vertina said snottily, and before Sophie could say anything Vertina started pulling her hair into a sleek ponytail, "Now, go put on that red dress, with a white tunic, and some black leggings!". Sophie agreed and slipped on Vertina's choice of clothes admiring how nice she looked.

There was a knock on the door when she finished.

Hey Sophie. I'm here. Fitz transmitted. Sophie hastily made her bed and opened the door.

"Hey," Fitz said, his cheeks flushing the same color of Sophie's dress.

"So.. let's do some Cognate training" Sophie said, trying to break the awkward silence between them.

Sophie and Fitz sat on Sophie's flower carpet and stared at each other for a moment.

"Ok," Fitz paused for a moment, "Remember you promised to tell me everything. What if we show each other our entire life. I know it will be embarrassing and you probably don't want to do it, but this is the best way for us to become Cognates.

"Sure. Can't go back on a promise," Sophie said, forcing her heart to stop fluttering.

May I enter your mind, Fitz transmitted.

Sophie sucked in a deep breath before transmitting ok.

So I'll go first, The scene started out with Fitz saying hello to his mother as a newborn another showed him going to Atlantis when he was a toddler and everyone clearing paths for them and Fitz wondering why, as he got older people started whispering about where his brother kept going. Then it showed him going to the forbidden cities for the very first time bursting into tears as he saw bullies beating up a little boy and girl, at Foxfire prodigies whispering about his absences, seeing multiple girls that weren't the right one. A thousand memories fluttered by and she watched it all. The last memory was finding Sophie and his heart fluttering the second he held hands with hers.

You...you've always liked me? Biana said you had a crush on me since Alluvetere, not when we first met. Sophie transmitted in disbelief.

Umm...yeah. I actually lied to her because I thought if you found out that I loved you from the very beginning you would think I was weird or something and break up. Fitz transmitted back.

Of course I wouldn't break up with you. Plus everyone's a little weird in their own way, right?

If you put it that way, then sure.

A new scene came in, but this time Sophie wasn't just looking at the memory she was looking at the memory in Fitz's point of view.

Fitz really wanted someone to talk to and right on cue someone knocked

"Come in," Fitz said. Biana entered the room.

"Is this about Sophie?" Biana asked.

"Yeah, I just broke up with her and I want to get back together, but I don't think that's going to happen," Fitz said, sadly.

"Maybe you just had a crush on Sophie, just like I had a crush on Keefe but one day you'll find your soulmate and it may not be Sophie," Biana said.

Fitz stared at her as if she was crazy.

"Just think about it, you never know," Biana said. Fitz stared at the ceiling and thought about it, maybe she was right.

I am beyond that now. Can we get back together one day?

That would be nice....Ok, it's my turn now. Sophie transmitted trying to change the subject. Sophie then shared every single memory she had. It took her a long time since she had photographic memory. Sophie pulled out one last memory. It was when she found out about her biological mom.

Fitz gasped, "Sophie I'm so sorry I understand now!"

Sophie smiled, "It's ok, but please let's just keep this between you and me"

"Of course"

"I think we're ready for the probe now," Sophie said.
