The Proposal

Kings Landing

Jon arrived back in Kings Landing with little fanfare . It had been weeks since he had left but he had not kept in touch except to let Daenerys know that he was going to extend his stay . He was eager to see both his wife and his daughter . He had missed them . He had not missed Kings Landing , there was no sense of relief , no sense of coming home . Though he had lived here for close to two decades he never felt that he should be here . The sense of home he had felt in Winterfell he could never feel here .

The conversation with Daenerys he did not want to put off . The sooner they had the conversation the better . After his trip to Winterfell he realized that he had actually not been a good King , he had not tempered Daenerys the way that he should have . There were many instances of collateral damage that had been committed in securing and maintaining the crown that were indefensible . He knew that he had turned a blind eye and for that he was ashamed and regretful . He did not know the particulars but after having spoken to Bran he knew that his wife and their armies had inflicted damage that could have been prevented and could not be excused against innocents . The North had sheltered and taken care of thousands of  refugees from those conquests over the years . Bran had let him know that Sansa was responsible for the social services and facilities to resettle the refugees . Jon was very proud of Sansa . Jon feared that was another reason that Sansa would never forgive him.

Jon was lost in his thoughts when Rae walked in. 

Rae : Father ! You're back !

Jon : Yes darling I'm back ! I've missed you .

Rae :I'm cross with you ! You've been gone so long !

Jon: I'm sorry there were things I needed to take care of . I will tell you all about it soon .

Rae : What did you bring me ?

Jon: ( looking sheepish ) I'm sorry darling I did not bring anything back . I thought you could go with me when I go back North .

Rae : What do you mean ?? You're going back ? You've just arrived ! You're leaving again ?

Before Jon could say anything Daenerys walked in .
Daenerys :  Yes what do you mean you're going back ?

Jon: Dany, good to see you .

Daenerys : Don't Dany me , why would you go back ?

Jon : Rae darling could you leave us ? I need to speak to your mother . I promise I will be in to see you before you go to bed .

Rae leaves .

Daenerys : What is going on ?

Jon: Dany please sit .

Dany : Why ? Are you going to give me bad news?

Jon ( looking straight at her ) : There are some very important things that I have learned of and I need to tell you . It may be difficult for you to hear , please sit .

Dany turns a bit pale but sits .
Dany : Go on I'm listening .

Jon exhales loudly and pulls up a chair in front of her . He reaches out for her hands . She's looking at him intently . He looks directly into her eyes .

Jon: You know that before we married I had told you that I had feelings for Sansa . I did not know she was my cousin so I did not act on them . You very graciously told me to speak to her even though we were to marry .

Dany interrupts him: You told me that she did not want any relationship with you and you dropped it . You said you loved me and the baby and you said you wanted to build a life with us .

Dany jerks away her hands .

Jon: I did . I do .

Dany (angrily ) : What are you trying to say? Just say it !
