The Proposal

Bitter Truths

Jon decides he must return to Kings Landing and tell Danearys the truth about Robb . He has left a long detailed letter to Sansa telling her what he was planning on doing . He also left Sansa's ribbon that he had held onto for all these years . He left it with the letter and promised her that he would come back as the ribbon had been his protective talisman all the years that they had been apart . He left the ribbon to protect her and to provide a small assurance to her that he had thought of her every day .

He spoke with Robb . He told Robb that he was going to tell Daenerys about his parentage . The boy did not flinch . He assured Robb repeatedly that he would always protect him and Sansa .  He also had a very very long talk with Sam .  Sam was very fearful about Sansa's long term health . Sam was not confident that Sansa would have a successful recovery . Sam told Jon that Sansa knew that she may not recover . She had accepted it gracefully per Sam . She told Sam that she only wanted to live 2 more years to see Robb reach 18 . That conversation had broken Jon's heart . Sam also gave Jon a letter that Sansa had written for him  months ago when she was deathly ill . She had told Sam to give it to him if she did not survive . Sam thought Jon should know Sansa's last thoughts and felt his friend should know of Sansa's true feelings in case this was the last time they met .Sam wanted to give it to him because he was not confident that Jon would return from Kings Landing . His long absence had  obliterated the trust that people had in his word . He took the letter and put it in his doublet .

It was with a heavy heart that he left Winterfell , but this time was different . This time he would be back . He had neglected the North and the Starks . He had turned a blind eye to many things and that was his fault. There were no more excuses . The truth was that he was selfish . He had ultimately wanted to divide his heart between two women but that had not worked . He had not done his duty to either . He had abandoned Sansa and it was true he had not looked back , not really . He had never fully committed to Daenerys either , he had kept Sansa in his heart and had never fully committed to the marriage with his entire being . He wanted to be a father yes he had done his duty to Raella , but he had not done enough to shape her . She was a product of her mothering by Daenerys . She should have been brought back to Winterfell to see how the North was . To learn that simplicity could be a good thing .Through no fault of her own she knew nothing of her Stark heritage and nothing of the North and was a product of Kings Landing . She was a good hearted child but unfortunately very childish and coddled . Not good traits for a future queen .It was in stark contrast to Robb who was overly mature for his age , the boy seemed to have the weight of the world on his shoulders . He never seemed carefree , but that may have been because the only parent that he knew had been so ill . There was no way around it Robb resented him and he had not been there for him. Jon was not sure if Robb would ever see him as a father , but he had to try , he owed him that . His fervent wish was that his children get to know each , that he knew would not be possible if their mothers did not agree .

He would go to King's Landing to have some very hard conversations with his wife the Queen .
