The Proposal

Sansa

Sansa thinks over the last months . A lot has happened and she needs to reconcile herself with what is happening right now . 

Jon did not return to Kings Landing and she was surprised that he did not . He spent every free second with her that he was allowed . He was literally her shadow .

He had traveled to Dorne but not with her .
The only people she had truly wanted with her were Robb , Brienne and Sam . Jaime stayed at Winterfell during this time to be with Joanna . They were only gone for a few weeks . That had been months ago .The trip to Dorne was physically and emotionally draining . Sam had met the maester and the healer and they had given him the the instructions on how to  make  the potions that they had made in order to help her regain her strength . Sam had brought all the ingredients back to Winterfell and had learned how to grow the plants from the seeds and roots that had grown organically in Dorne . They had to be replicated under the same conditions as they were in Dorne under the glass gardens in Winterfell . Luckily Sam had mastered how to grow them and Jon and Robb had eagerly wanted to learn too . Sansa had been examined by the maester and the healer in Dorne and they told her how to meticulously take the potion to regain her strength and her health . They had told her that they had some success with some patients that had experienced the same symptoms as Sansa . They however did not lie and tell her that all the patients were cured . They warned her the outcome was about 50/50 . Half of the people recovered while half did not . It had been months since they had returned and regrettably she was not much better . They had said that the people that were cured had shown improvement in the first few months , she had not .

This was not the only thing weighing heavily on her mind and heart . Another thing that was weighing heavily was Oberyn Martell. He had met Jon and seen Robb  in Dorne and had deduced rather quickly that Robb was Jon's son . She was again furious at Jon for coming ( he had follows her there separately without her permission ) and at herself for letting Robb come . She was overwhelmed with fear  at what he would do with the information . She was grateful for once that Jon had already informed Queen Daenerys . She needed to reach out to the Queen herself to inform her that Oberyn knew . The Queen was not entertaining any correspondence from Jon , so she would have to write to Tyrion and beg him to let the Queen know what Oberyn knew , lest she view Robb in any context that he  could be viewed as a threat to her .

She would sit down and write the letter, she needed to appeal to her as a mother . She was feeling better about the fact that it seemed the Queen did not view Robb as a threat . As far as Sansa knew there had been no correspondence between Jon and his wife in all these months that he had been in Winterfell . It was approaching a year now . She knew he had originally written to both his wife and his daughter but a few months after he had arrived he had received a raven from his daughter telling him to leave her and her mother alone to heal from his abandonment / departure . She knew he still kept in touch with Tyrion to know about Rae and Daenerys . Jon still tried to write to his daughter but all his correspondence were retuned unopened . Tyrion had also told Jon not to return to Kings Landing as the Queen would view that as a hostile act - Daenerys had told Tyrion that if Jon returned she would have to assume he returned as an enemy to the Crown and he would be treated as such .

Sansa had to face the truth , the treatment had not worked and she was dying . Now the only thing left for her to do was to secure Robb before she was gone . Thankfully Jon has truly stepped up to try and fulfill his role as a father . Robb had grown accustomed to Jon but the fact that he had missed out on most of Robb's life was almost too much to overcome .Robb was cordial and respectful of Jon , but she feared they would never have the easy , loving father and son bond that she had wished for them . Her heart did break for Jon too , both his children did not seem to want to have anything of substance to do with him . She only prayed that time would heal all these relationships .

Robb sensed that Sansa was not recovering . Joanna had become his rock during these past months . She was grateful they had each other . Robb was soon approaching his 17th nameday . She was so happy that her son had found a love that was clearly reciprocated .She  had spoken to Brienne and Sir Jaime . The parents knew that there was love between their children . Anyone could see it when they were together . She wanted to do something about that before her time ran out .

She had gently told Jon one night that she knew she was dying and Jon had refused to accept it . They loved one another , however that was not meant to be in this life . He had been with her through the whole treatment process and she knew that his love for her was true . The problem was that he was not hers , he never had been . She had explained to him that though she loved him she could not become his lover since he was a married man . That was a fact . That had not changed . She told Jon that she could not do that , it went against every fiber of her being. It was against her moral compass she would hate herself if she allowed it , the vows meant something . He never said a word , he said that he just wanted to be with her on whatever terms she offered . She had told Jon that she just needed a friend for herself and a father for Robb , and that was what he had become . He had even slept on the floor on a mattress on the days she had been ill , just holding her hand . She prayed that the Gods would grant her Jon as a husband in the next life . For now she needed him for support and for Robb .
