The Proposal

Sansa

Jon knocks on Sansa's solar doors and waits for her to answer .

She finally answers and moves aside to let him in .
They make there way to the sitting area and she motions for him to sit.  She takes the seat opposite him .

Jon: How are you ? You don't look well .( Jon says with concern )

Sansa : ( with a hint of sarcasm) well it's nice to see you too after all these years .

Jon: I don't mean that , you will always be beautiful but you look ill .

Sansa : I have been ill but I'm recovering and the Gods willing I will be up to full strength in no time .

Jon: What is wrong with you ?

Sansa : I'm not sure , Sam has been trying to help but I'm not sure he even knows . He has given me some herbs and changed my diet , I feel better now .

Jon: ( nods his head ) I see . I was worried when I heard from Tyrion that you were not well . Jaime Lannister raised my suspicions and would not tell me anything regarding you or Winterfell . I couldn't stay away any longer I had to see for myself .

Sansa : I'm fine I'm recovering . You have seen me so there's really no reason to stay any longer .

Jon:( angrily ) How can you say that ? You have lied to me and hidden my son from me his whole life !! I deserved to know about him. Why did you do it ? Why ? I want to hear it from you !

Sansa : I was afraid for his safety . I thought about telling you many times through the years , but in the end I could not gamble on his safety so I kept him hidden from you and by extension from your wife .

Jon: You did not trust me with the safety of my own son ? !

Sansa : ( breathes out ) Yes I did not think that you could protect MY son from your wife . She could view him as a potential threat to her crown , her daughter and to her marriage . Why would I expose him to all
that? There was no reason on earth that was good enough to expose him to all that so I didn't .

Jon: ( still angry ) You had no right to keep him
from me . I missed my child's whole life .

Sansa : First of all I had to do my duty as his mother to protect him which I did . Second of all if you had been here to raise him you would have missed out on your other child's life . I found out I was expecting on the day of your marriage to Daenerys . I thought this was a sign from the Gods that I was meant to have my child because I was not meant to have you .

Jon ( shakes his head ) : I could still have been a part of both your lives , I gave you the option then too . You did not want to take it .

Sansa : No that is not who I am , I am a Stark  I could not live as a Targaryen co -wife , and share my husband . And you were never strong enough to decide between us . Best that you just stayed there instead of constantly disappointing Robb and I by never being fully present even when you were here . The truth is you never looked back , if you were so unhappy you would have tried to change your circumstances , but you didn't so that means you were happy with Daenerys . I accepted that early on and wished you the best .

Jon: Sansa it has never been that simple and you know it .

Sansa : No , it's never been that complicated either .

( They both just look at each other )

Jon: Sansa you don't know how much I have missed you , longed for you all these years .( Jon is tearful )

Sansa: ( whispering) Stop , just stop . You are a married man . What I shared with you was a lifetime ago and before you belonged to someone else . I will not dishonor myself by indulging in this .

( Jon looks sad . )

Sansa :  I have had a good life . I wanted to spend my life with the love of my life and I did . His name is Robb . I'm grateful that you gave him to me , really I am .  He's brought me such joy I cannot tell you . I consider myself lucky

Jon: Lucky ?

Sansa ( nods ): The Gods are not so cruel if they take something they give something else .
I made a good life for myself and I tried to give Robb as happy a childhood as I could . Of course it wasn't perfect nothing is , but on the whole .

Jon: Did he ever miss me ? Did he ever miss having a father ?

Sansa : I'm sure he did . As I told you , when he was old enough to  understand he started asking questions about his father . I told him about you and why you couldn't be with us and he seemed to understand . He knows about your family .
I never said anything negative about you .

Jon: How can he not resent me for being there for Raella and not being here for him?

Sansa : You didn't know about him.

Jon: He may accept that logically , but his heart probably does not accept it . He was cheated out of a father .

Sansa : He had male role models . Bran , Sam and Ser Jaime they were here for him in different capacities .

Jon: They were not his father ! I was !

Sansa : What are you going to do ?

Jon: He's my son .I'm going to be a part of his life .

Sansa : Yes , you should get to know him . What are you going to do to protect him? Are you going to tell Daenerys ?

Jon: She will find out whether I tell her or not . She would never hurt Robb .

Sansa : Forgive me if I don't trust that . I've seen the survivors of the areas she destroyed to keep her crown .

Jon: I will protect him .

Sansa : The way you protected the innocents in those areas before ?

Jon: It wasn't like that . I never knew about those incidents .

Sansa : More like you didn't want to know . Willful blindness .

Jon is ashamed because he knows there is some truth in that .

Jon: He's my son I will never let anything happen to him . Know that Sansa . I know you've never trusted my love for you , but on my life I swear I will never let anyone harm Robb .

Sansa : Alright .
( And she believes him)
