The Proposal

Rae and Dany

It had been unreal , her father standing in the middle of her room telling her that she had a brother. She was confused for a moment but then he explained that he was actually her half brother and Lady Stark was his mother . His name was Robb . How many times had Rae asked her mother for a little brother or sister ? Too many times to count .She never dreamed that her wish would come true and along with it bring so much pain .

What angered her the most was that he seemed so happy to tell her . That he had done something so great by betraying her mother .  He was no longer her devoted , honest father . He was no longer someone that she could count on . The only one she had left in this world now that was truly hers was her mother . Rae often pretended to be childish and not comprehend what was going on around her . But she knew exactly what was going on .The truth was she was not sure she was strong enough to be Queen , she wasn't strong like her mother . She wanted to remain a child as long as possible so she could avoid all the responsibilities that would be thrown at her when she became an adult . It looked like she no longer had that luxury . There was nobody that cared for them anymore , not really . She would have to look after her mother now since her father had abandoned them , the way her mother had always looked after her . She was deep in thought when Dany walked in .

"Are you alright Rae ?" Dany asked trying to hide her own anguish .

"Yes I will be , don't worry Mama we're going to be ok ."Rae answered as bravely as she could .

" My sweet girl , I know . We're Targaryens . We are strong women you and I .We were born to rule. We are going to be just fine . You'll see ." Replied Dany .

Rae nodded her head and try as she might a lone tear escaped her eye and trickled down her cheek . She spoke in a firm and steady voice .
" I told him to go Mama . I told him we would be fine without him ."

Dany nodded her head . She would never forgive Jon for the  pain he was causing her daughter . She would never forgive him for teaching her that at the end of the day you could not trust any man ,not really , not even your own father . Maybe it was for the best , to learn this lesson early in life so you were prepared for the eventual heartache that countless women suffer at the hands of men they trust . Dany had sure learned the hard way .
" Rae is it alright if I sleep with you tonight ?"

" Of course Mama. I would like that ."

Dany and Rae snuggled under the covers together . She hated Jon in this moment but even then she couldn't help but think that if he hadn't come into her life she would not have Rae . That event had been a miracle . They had tried so many times to have another babe but it was not written for them . To think that he had another child after one single night with his lover. It was unfair . She did believe him that it was one night . He was a lot of things but not a liar . It would be difficult to cut him out of her heart . She always knew deep in her  that she did not own all of his heart. She knew Sansa Stark was lodged there , clearly she had been there from the beginning . Maybe Sansa Stark was the true owner of his heart even in all the years that he was her husband ? Maybe she was the intruder .The thought pierced her from the inside , like a shard of glass that was swallowed that did untold damage once ingested . She couldn't allow herself these thoughts ,nothing good could  come of it . She was Queen ,she was a mother , she was a Targaryen . She had to be strong even if it killed her .

" Mama did you know ?"

" No , Rae I just found out too ."

"'Did he know ? Was he hiding it from us all this time Mama ?"

"He says he did not know Rae . I believe him. He's not a liar ." Even though Dany was beyond bitter she had to be honest with Rae . It was best to be truthful and she did not want to hurt Rae any further than she already had been .

" Mama he betrayed you , how can you say he's not a liar ? " Rae whispered .

Dany painfully told Rae the whole truth . That Jon had been in love with Sansa before he had met her and that once he learned that she was his cousin he wanted to marry her , and that Dany had let him go North to see if Lady Stark would agree to be a Targaryen co wife since it had been done before . Lady Stark had not agreed and sent Jon back to King's Landing alone . Dany had thought  that Jon wound forget about her eventually , but that had not happened .  Dany told Rae that she believed that Jon did not know about his other child , because she felt that if he did he would have wanted some relationship with the boy .

" Mama , do you think he's sorry that he's my father ?" Rae asked with a shaky voice .

Dany's heart tore in two . " No my baby ! Why would you say such a thing ? No ."

" I think he's sorry ." She whispered .

Dany mustered all the courage she had .
"Rae listen to me . I know you're hurt . I am too . He's not sorry that he is your father . He is a lot of things but he was a good father . I don't want you to hate him , that would only hurt you my child . He always wanted you . I never forced him to marry me .When  I found out you were coming , he was overjoyed,  never once did he want to leave you . I gave him the option of leaving before he married me . He grew up without his parents , he wanted to be the best father he could to you . I want you to understand that and believe it ."

" But Robb , his son , grew up without him
Mama. He wasn't there for him ."

" Yes Rae that is true . This is a lot to take in . Let's just rest tonight . Everything will look better in the morning ."

" I love you Mama ."

" I love you my darling , you are my whole world ."

They pulled tighter together and fell asleep .
