The Proposal

Robb

Sansa came in to speak to Robb . Robb's nameday celebration was coming up . She wanted to formalize something with Joanna . Sansa wanted to secure Robb as much as she could before her health failed her completely . She needed to accomplish this, she wanted Robb to have a loving life partner . She wanted her son to get every happiness that she had been deprived of . She was not foolish , she knew she would not live long enough to see a grandchild . However , there was no way she would leave this earth before seeing her only child be at least betrothed to his Joanna . They were still young but they were not immature and it was not unheard of to have a bethrothal or marriage at their ages .

Robb: Mother you wanted me .

Sansa : Yes , I wanted to formally ask for Joanna's hand . What do you think ?

Robb : ( he was blushing ) You know how I feel about her .

Sansa : Yes I do . That's why I wanted to formalize things . I intend to speak to Sir Jaime and Brienne .
You should speak to Joanna first though .

Robb : I will .
Sansa : Are you happy my love ?

Robb: Yes . Thank you , for everything . ( Robb looked at her with such love , that Sansa felt herself tearing up .)

Sansa : I love you Robb and I wish love for you in your life . So I want to see you with Joanna before my health fails . I know you're both young , but I think this will be a good thing for both of you .

Robb : Mother , you will outlive us all .

Sansa just laughed : You do your part , I will do mine .

Sansa thought she should tell Jon as well , it wasn't permission or advice but she did think he should know .

She met Jon in his solar .
Sansa : I just wanted to tell you that I'm
Asking for Joanna's hand in marriage for Robb . I've discussed it with Bran. He thinks it will be good for Robb and for the North .

Jon : I didn't realize they were that serious about one another . But he's not exactly open with me . Aren't they young ?

Sansa : Yes , you're right they're young but I want to secure Robb's future . I want him to have a loving life partner and I believe Joanna will be a good Queen . Bran has legitimized Robb and when he becomes King he will need a reliable life partner who loves him and will support him . It's a good match for the North as well . Serendipity I suppose . This will tie the North to the West and Tarth . I intend to speak to Sir Jaime and Brienne .

Jon : Would you like me to accompany you ?

Sansa : That is your decision .

Jon: I would like to come .

Sansa : Then let us meet them to formally ask for Joanna's hand .

Jon: And she feels the same way ?

Sansa : Yes she does , but I did tell Robb to speak to Joanna before I speak to Sir Jaime and Brienne . As soon as he speaks to her , I will formally ask Sir Jaime and Brienne to dine with us .

Jon : I miss Robb . ( Jon says whistfully )

Sansa looks puzzled .

Jon : My brother Robb . Or cousin . No , no he was , is my brother . He always had a way with the girls . ( Jon laughs )

Sansa : I miss him too ,  every day . How  different things would have been if he had lived .

Jon : If he had lived ....( Jon shakes his head )
I should have left the Wall ..

Sansa : No .....
our son is get married let's take the happiness
Let's not dwell on what we've lost , at least not today .

She squeezes his hands and leaves the room .
