"Isn't that Josh Lumpkin's house?" Mike asked, spying Bethany Ann's truck stopping in front of his house. "Why is she there?"

"Yes, it is his house," I replied, passing the house and pulling into an abandoned parking lot, that was close by. I turned around and stayed put, knowing that Bethany Ann would not be coming this way. "I do not know why she is there, though," I added, moving a hand through my hair.

"We can find out later," Mike said, watching as Josh pulled out of his drive and going in the direction that we were in. "Come on, let's wait for him at his house." He paused, frowning. "He doesn't have a mate, does he?"

I shook my head no. "From what I gathered from the meeting that he had with my father was that his mate had died in a rogue attack. He didn't want to live with that pack anymore, so he asked my father if he could live here but not be part of the pack." My throat clenched as I thought about my deceased parents.

Mike nudged my arm, knowing what I was feeling. "Hey, cheer up," he said. "We will find out what he knows about Bethany Ann. You never know, he actually might be her teacher." A grin appeared on his face. "He might be, and it will be easier to get her school changed."

"And she'll hate us," I replied. "I just hope she won't hate us too much to not give us a chance." I couldn't help but shudder, not wanting to think that.

"She'll get used to it," Mike said with a laugh. "Now, come on, let's see what we can find out about Bethany Ann."

I nodded my head and grunted, before starting the car and going to Josh's house. My hands gripped hard on the steering while I was driving there, because I didn't know what I would find out about her. I just hoped that it wasn't anything bad or made Bane want to kill someone, like the messenger.

A car pulled up behind mine, around 3:00am, while both me and Mike had fallen asleep. The person knocked on the car window, making both of us jump up, scared.

A growl left my lips, while I opened my eyes to see Josh, known as Mr. Lumpkin, staring into the car at us from the driver's window. A yawn followed, while I rubbed my eyes and rolled down the window. "Yes?" I asked, trying my hardest not to yawn again.

Mistrust filled his eyes, while he looked at us, not knowing why we were there. "Is there a reason why you are parked here?" he asked, his voice holding a small bit of respect, because I was still a higher rank than him.

I grunted and nodded. "Can we come on?" I asked. "It won't take that long." I didn't tell him why I was here, knowing that someone or something might be watching us.

Mr. Lumpkin frowned before he nodded his head towards the house, indicating that we could go on in. He didn't say a word while he walked towards the house, not even looking back to make sure that we were following or not.

I glanced at Mike, who shrugged his shoulders before stepping out and following Mr. Lumpkin into his house.

'This better tell us something about Bethany Ann,' Bane growled out slightly. 'If not, then this trip was useless, and we could be using this extra time to sleep.'

I couldn't help but agree more.

"I'm sorry about the mess," Mr. Lumpkin said, while he stepped into the living room where there were books upon books stacked everywhere. He moved around, cleaning the couch off and moving it into a different chair. "I wasn't expecting any company, well the Alpha of the pack." He glanced at me before moving off to clear off a place for him to sit. "Now, would you like anything to eat or drink?" he asked, before he sat down.

I shook my head no before sitting down and indicating that he could sit as well. "What do you know about Bethany Ann?" I asked, bluntly. I wasn't going to beat around this bush, speaking with formalities, because this had something to do with my mate and in the future, with my pack.

Mr. Lumpkin frowned and looked at me. "What do you want with Bethany Ann?" he asked. Warning filled his voice, causing my Wolf to take a little bit of control and growling at him. He instantly bowed his head in submission, but he didn't say a word, much to my displeasure.

"What my friend, and Alpha, is trying to say is that Bethany Ann is his mate. He is just wondering about what do you know about her and information like that. He had seen the scar on her neck, and he had felt very protective of her. He, also, knows that she lives in Ram's Inn, and that you are her teacher," Mike said, finally.

Mr. Lumpkin frowned while he gone over his words. His eyes seemed to change colors, while he was talking to his Wolf, but they finally stayed at the color green. However, they had a little more black in them, letting me know that his Wolf was close to the surface. "Before I say anything, I want this to be clear, I care about Bethany Ann as if she is my own daughter. That girl had been through a lot of pain and heartache all ready. She doesn't need anymore." He paused. "That being said, will you reject her because she is a Half-Breed, and she can't shift into her Wolf?"

Shock filled my eyes while he had asked the question. Quickly, I shook my head no, indicating that I wasn't going to reject her. "Bethany Ann is a strong female. I've seen it and so has my Beta. I had fallen for the way that she held herself and for the fact that she won't back down from a fight. I know that her past has been hard, but I want to try to help her in anyway possible."

Mr. Lumpkin studied me for a couple of minutes before nodding. He stood up quickly and started to look for something, knocking books over in the process. "Now, I can't tell you anything about her past. However, I can give you something that will help. Bethany Ann doesn't trust easily, and a single thing can make her mistrust you again. It's hard to earn it and harder to keep it." He came back, holding a leather bound journal and handed to me. "This will tell you what had happened to her. It's starts from what she can remember and such."

I opened the journal and flipped through, frowning when all I saw was numbers and letters in some sort of fashion. "Is this some sort of joke?" I asked, flipping around to see if there was a key, which there wasn't. "There's nothing in here."

"She wrote it in code. You will need to figure it out, or she will have to tell you what the key is. I had promised her that I wouldn't tell anyone about what I had read in the book."

I flipped through it some more before closing it with a huff. Bethany Ann was turning out to be more and more of mystery than I first thought. "Now, I want her transferred to my school. Since you are her teacher, and I'm sure advisor, can you see if that can happen? My Wolf and I want her close by."

Mr. Lumpkin nodded his head. "I will see what I can do." He cleared his throat, probably hating the fact that she would be so far away. "Is there anything?"

I shook my head no while I stood, clutching the journal that smelt like her but mostly of him. "No," I replied. "Thank you for your help. I'll show myself out." With that, I turned around and started towards the door, followed by Mike.

"Take good care of her," Mr. Lumpkin called out.

I turned to look at him, holding the door handle in my hand. "I was going to." With that, I stepped out and walked to the car.

After getting in, we both stayed silent on the way back to the Pack House, lost in our own thoughts.
