Summer before Deathy Hallows

I sit at the top of the steps outside. It's cold outside but running made my body warm. I finally see Draco round the corner of the mansion, he almost slips on the wet cobblestone.
"Draco, took you long enough! I thought this race was supposed to be fun but it was way too easy you slow poke!" I exclaim loudly. I can see his face full of anger. His once pale face now rosy, almost red in color. His small fists clenched at either side.
"Serenity! It wasn't fair! You had a head start!" He yells at me. I just laugh at him only causing him to become more angry. He runs towards me and I quickly find my footing before running away.

I had the advantage, I had already caught my breath, he was still huffing and puffing. Plus he had stairs to climb. I ran aimlessly through the mansion to find a good hiding spot. I settled with the library, no one ever set foot in there. I sat behind the couch and tried to contain my giggles. I heard footsteps approaching, but they weren't Draco's. These were footsteps of an adult, or maybe two adults. I held my breath. I wasn't allowed in the library and I didn't want to get in trouble with Lucious again after the house elf incident.

"And the location is decided?" The voice of Lucious echos off the walls.
"Yes sir, and it is protected with many spells. No one, without knowing the truth can know where or how to get in." A man I don't recognize the voice of replies. "But sir, if I may ask, why is this so important?" He inquires.
"This may come in handy. Truthfully I hope we never need to use this last resort, but it could give us the upper hand in future." Lucious proudly exclaims.
"Who knows of this?" He asks.
"Only the two of us my friend." The man replies.
"Good." Lucious says.

"AVADA KEDAVRA!"

Lucious yells. I jump at his yell and the noise of the man's body slamming against the ground.

I shoot up in bed, attempting to catch my breath. I look around and am reminded I'm in Neville's room. He isn't next to me but the light coming in from the window tells me it's far past morning. I must have slept in. I catch my breath and lay back in bed staring at the ceiling. Why did I have that dream? Not only a dream but a memory. That day when I was 8 years old in the mansion had haunted me for many months after, causing sleepless nights full of nightmares. Why would that nightmare return now of all times?

Just as I'm thinking about getting out of bed Neville comes through the door.
"Oh you are awake! You know it's already noon sleeping beauty? Never mind that though I'm glad you got some sleep. Are you hungry?" He says
"Neville that was a lot to take in for someone who just woke up." I say while stretching.
"Sorry." He chuckles. "I asked if you are hungry?"
"Yes, actually I'm quite hungry." I say rubbing my empty stomach.
"Ok that settles it, get dressed!" Neville exclaims.
"Ughhhh." I say falling back in the bed. "Do I have to?" I groan. Neville laughs. Then he grabs my ankles and pulls me out of bed. I fall to the ground with a hard thump.
"Ow!" I yell. "That hurt!"
"I said get dressed you lazy bum!" He exclaims.
"Fine." I say while rubbing my bum. I make my way back to my room and pull on a yellow sweater. I look in the mirror and pull my hair into a top knot bun.

Neville pulls me along to the flower field and to my surprise he had already set up a picnic for us.
"So what would you have done if I weren't hungry?" I ask giggling in excitement.
"I would have forced you to eat anyway." He says with a smile. We both sit on the blanket together and I pop a strawberry in my mouth. Today is so warm I could have worn a dress but I wasn't much of a dress girl. I wonder what I would wear to the wedding, maybe Hermione had something. That wasn't till a month from now though. I look to meet Neville's gaze. He looks guilty about something.

"Don't tell me this is my last meal, have you brought me here to kill me?" I joke.
"What?" He asks, shaking the thoughts he had out of his head.
"I'm only joking Neville, what's on your mind?" I ask.

She asks what's on my mind. So much is on my mind, I haven't yet told her about the Order of the Phoenix requesting her to join. I wasn't sure if I should let her be ignorant to that information, only for a little longer. She was so happy, free of worry. She looks at me concerned. I know if I was in her position I would want to know.
"Serenity, I have to tell you something." I say.
"Yes?" She asks.
"Well, the Order of the Phoenix, they want you to join. They told me the night we went to the Burrow. I told them no." I say.
"You what? You told them no, for me?" Serenity sits straight up.
"Wait hear me out." I say putting my hands up in defense. "I knew you would do it. I knew in a second you would say yes. That's just who you are, but that's stupid. It's too soon after what happened, what you were forced to do. I don't want you in danger. I want to protect you. Mr and Mrs Weasley agreed. so I brought you here, just for a little while. They do expect an answer from you though, in two weeks." I explain.

She sits there looking at the ground deep in thought. She nervously plays with the edge of the picnic blanket.
"Neville, I know you want to protect me. I want nothing more for you to stay safe as well. But. There is a war, a war that I was a big part of starting. If I can do anything to help I will, so I'm going to say yes." Serenity finally says. I look at her a small smile creeps onto my face.
"I knew you would, but can we stay like this a little longer?" I ask.
"Please." She replies quickly. "Thank you for this, for everything. I really did need it." She adds.

"Anything for you love." I reply.
