"Is everything okay, baby?" Harry's Mum answered protectively.

Harry had hardly spoken. He just focused on his breathing until he could muster up the strength to tell his mum everything.

"Are you still at school? Did something happen?" She had an even and soothing tone. Harry always admired that she could stay calm and rational even in the most threatening of situations.

The more he thought about it the more his eyes started to swell. "I don't know what to do." He whispered.

"Calm down, sweetheart. I'm sure we can figure it out together, yeah?"

Harry shook his head as if she could hear it through the phone. "I think I'm in love and... I think I've made some really bad decisions." He ran his fingers through his hair.

"Oh, honey. It's going to be okay. There's nothing in this world we can't get through together, remember? What happened with Louis?" She knew him so well this was almost easy.

"He cheated. It was a while ago. With the most awful guy and I thought I was over it so we got back together but then I don't know I just... wasn't. So we broke up again." Harry rolled his eyes at his own naivety. "Ever since then we've done nothing but hurt each other and I can't help but feel like the universe is telling me to stay away from him but I just...can't. We're in a better place now...I, I mean, I think. But if it's not us hurting each other it's someone else doing it for us and lately, I can't stop thinking about that night and every time I think I'm over it I remember I am powerless with him." He was talking so fast he wasn't sure his words were as coherent aloud as they were in his head.

"I feel powerless with him. If he looks at another boy I- I hate myself. If he doesn't give me a note in the morning I feel empty all day. If he doesn't want to talk to me I pick apart every word I've ever said to him and where I've gone wrong. I don't want to feel this way anymore. If we do this again and I'm not enough this time, I don't... I don't think I'll ever be okay again, Mum." Each word was followed by a heavy sob. He could feel the pain in his chest getting tighter by the second.

"Listen here, love. You've got the biggest and most beautiful heart. Never be ashamed for using it. Love isn't easy and it doesn't always work out but I can guarantee you put your whole heart into something and you are gonna look back and smile. Now, I don't like the idea of any boy or girl going around and breaking my baby's heart but if you have forgiven him, I mean really forgiven him, then you gotta be honest with yourself about what you want. If you want to make it work then you gotta be brave. If you want to go your separate ways, then you gotta be brave enough to admit that to yourself. I know you have the strength to do either one and I will support you no matter what, okay?" She chuckled sweetly through the phone and it put a smile across his face.

"What would you do?" He wondered.

"Believe it or not I've found myself in your shoes a few times in my day, and while I wouldn't change a thing in my life, I tended to take the easy route instead of following my heart. Once you're in the habit of ignoring your heart it's hard to start to hearing it when you're ready to listen. So when it comes down to it, don't pick easy." Everything felt clearer. He knew what he needed to do now.

"Thanks." He was breathing steadily now.

"Anytime, sweetie." There was something different about her tone now. Something didn't feel right. "Listen, if you're feeling alright...there's actually something I've been meaning to tell you."

"Is everything okay?" He could feel his heartbeat shoot back up.

"Everything is fine, but I know we talked about you coming back home and I know things have changed since then, but I figured I'd break the news in case you were still thinking about it." Nothing she was saying was making much sense to Harry anymore.

"What is it?" He needed more clarification than this.

"We can talk more about it when you get home but I...got a promotion." She announced the news hesitantly like maybe it wasn't good news after all.

"That's great!" He encouraged her.

"The only problem is it comes with a location change." She told him wearily.

"Oh." Harry wasn't quite sure what this meant.

"You are more than welcome to come with me if that's something you still want." She assured him.

Harry was pretty sure he wanted to stay at his school now that things with his friends were better. "How far is it?" Harry wondered.

"A few hours." She admitted.

Hours. He couldn't imagine being that far away from his mum. He needed her. "By car?" He asked.

"By plane..." Harry could hear the guilt in her voice. This was not the time to find out his mum would soon be half the world away.

"When would you be leaving?" Harry tried not to let his voice sound as low as his spirits but was failing miserably.

"After the holidays." She answered remorsefully.

"Wow, that's not a lot of time." He couldn't believe this was really happening.

"I know. And I know you love your friends and your school so just know I will always be here for you, okay?"

"Okay." He nodded into the phone as he blinked away a single tear.

"I love you." She said firmly.

"I love you too." He reciprocated before ending their call.

After his last period ended he went straight home so didn't have to talk to Zayn or Liam about his tiny meltdown. He knew he needed to apologize he just needed a little time first.

He was sitting in his bed thinking about what his Mum said and deep down he knew she was right.

He got a text from Louis just as he was about to call him:

Hey. Didn't see you after practice. Liam said you were upset. You okay?

Harry only hesitated for a second before replying:

Can you come over?

As soon as Louis agreed to come over, Harry felt his palms get sweaty. Was he really ready for this?

Harry only had fifteen minutes to talk himself out of it but he couldn't get his mother's voice out of his head. He wondered if his dad had been the easy choice for her.

Louis pounded on their door urgently like he was the police and this was some sort of bust.

Harry swung the door open to see Louis panting. Concern was written all over his face from the crinkles by his eyes to the frown he was wearing. "What's wrong? Just...tell me." Louis braced himself for the worst.

"Okay," Harry agreed. "Let's talk."
