The first round was easy. Too easy. Favorite color. Favorite season. Favorite band. Harry had always been an open book to Louis, and most of the time he felt like he had been the one to write it. He just always felt connected to him and like he'd known him his whole life.
He was certain he'd win his baby that gold star. And God, he wanted to win it for him.
The small dimple forming at his cheek as he wrote his answer let Louis know he had the right one. They would exchange brief and knowing glances after every question read and it put the both of them at ease.
"Hey!" Anna called them out. "None of that telepathic couples communication shit." She pointed her writing utensil like it was a weapon at Louis and Harry and then at Liam and Zayn.
"Someone's starting to sound like a sore loser," Zayn smirked innocently.
"Oh-ho." Anna crossed her arms. "And someone is starting to sound cocky."
"Amateurs." Harry giggled quietly to him.
"They think they stand a chance." Louis shook his head with a small glimmer in his eye.
"Can you all shut up?" Olivia hushed the table. "He's reading the bonus question!" Louis was surprised to see the blonde girl taking the game so seriously.
He leaned over past his tall boyfriend to get a look at his two friends at the end of the booth. They seemed more relaxed with each other aside from the unease of Niall being left-handed and Olivia being right-handed. Occasionally, they'd shove each other's arms aside but it'd usually end in a play fight.
They were almost too obvious. Louis was happy with where he and Harry were, but what he wouldn't give to go back to a time where they were just falling in love. No wreckage, no messes, and no repairs, just two hearts trying to become one.
They wrote down their final answers and shortly after, a bell sounded ending the first round. They were instructed to pass their papers to the next closest contestants to grade. When they were done grading, a moderator was supposed to verify it was done correctly.
Harry and Louis graded Anna and Diana's paper. Harry took his job very seriously as he darted his head back and forth to check Louis's quick work. "No, see she got that wrong." Harry took the sheet from his hand.
"She wrote purple but Diana said violet." He studied both documents carefully.
"Harry, that's the same thing." Louis looked at him dumbfounded at his concern.
"So, what do you think we should do? Like half a point maybe..." He whispered as he massaged his chin with his thumb and index finger.
Louis bit his lip at the sight of his boy being absolutely adorable. "Let's be generous. I think they'll need it." Louis nudged him with his elbow supportively.
He smiled cheekily back at him. "Ok." He finished his grading and called for a moderator to check over their work. The gentleman eyed the two papers up and down swiftly and gave them a thumbs-up before moving on to the next group.
Louis stole a glance at Niall and Olivia to gauge how well he and Harry may have done. They were arguing about something discreetly and it looked like they hadn't even touched his and Harry's paper.
"Hey!" Louis snapped his fingers at them. "Hey, would you mind having your lover's quarrel after you grade our work?"
Their faces turned notably red and they quickly turned their attention to the pages in front of them. Louis gave Harry a questioning look but Harry only shrugged his shoulders.
