Chapter 48
I was in the Ob-gyn when they mandated all the first-year residents to gather in his office.
A resident doctor misidentified a patient that led to misdiagnosis. Hindi ko alam kung anong totoong nangyari. It's just been four months since we started our residency and this is the first time Dr. Samuel got this angry. There were already instances where he'd scold us for our mistakes but this is beyond his previous anger.
Double check every time you identify a patient! Do not be so relaxed! You're still starting and yet you act like you've been in this field for so long!"
Nakayuko kaming lahat at tahimik. Suminghap ako at kahit pagod at inaantok ay wala akong magawa kundi tumayo ro'n at tanggapin ang galit niya. It was like all for one, one for all. Ang mali ng isa, mali ng lahat.
I had my fair share of mistakes that I was very remorseful of. However, I am still learning, even though I am already a Doctor. In fact, I feel like I'm back to square one but the difference is that this is the real game, the real deal.
Are you going to take responsibility for the life you'd lost because of your negligence? Will you?!"
It was the resident who made a mistake. Some comforted her and some blamed her. I didn't want to comfort her nor blame her.
I didn't receive any message. Nilapitan ko siya.
"Sino?"
"Oh, alright. Thank you." I nodded at him.
"Sabay na tayo, I have to double-check a code status order." Aniya.
I nodded and we made our way to the emergency department while talking about what happened. I was right. A patient was misidentified that headed to misdiagnosis. A consultant learned this mistake when she asked the patient about her medicines.
For a moment, I was shocked to see him, especially when I found his eyes on me. What is he doing here in the hospital? He's even in his semi-formal attire!
"Dr. Osiander?"
He cocked his head to the emergency department, urging me to continue.
Sinong kasama niya? May sakit ba siya? Anong ginagawa niya rito?
It has been three days since I last saw him. There were times where I'd be caught up with what happened back at Law's birthday party and that I can't still believe he's back, pero madalas sa sobrang daming ginagawa ay nakakalimutan ko na.
