Welcome back, against all odds I was able to hide long enough for them to leave. Let me tell you how it went. The bank is dead silent, cobwebs covering the place, dirt lining the floor. It felt almost like a crypt. The silence was almost deafening... well when there weren't police shouting for me. I searched the main floor of the bank but found no spots I thought would hide me long enough. There was just enough moonlight shining through the skylight to light up the basement stairs. Ya, the basement of an abandoned bank, that's where I need to hide.
I scaled the stairs slowly to avoid tripping in the darkness. I followed the wall to the end of the hallway where there was a massive bank safe. I quickly entered the bank vault and I pulled on the door with all my strength to close it behind me. The door made a faint clicking noise and I lost my ability to see...even the slightest bit. I waited in that vault to see if my fate was sealed. I stayed in the vault a lot longer than I had to so I could make sure no one was still here.
While hiding I had to pee really bad all of the sudden you know the type of pee you have when your about to be found in a game of hide and seek...hide and seek pee if you will.
BAM! A hand suddenly pounded the vault door.
I shot up and grabbed the handle on the other side in an attempt to hold to shut.
"Police! come out now!" they shouted from the other side of the door.
He began to pull on the door a little but I was pulling so hard from my side the door didn't even budge.
"Locked," one of the officers said as I heard their voice disappear in the distance. My heart was pounding so hard I could feel it in my head. I turned and sat down with a sigh of relief. I dropped my head into my hands closing my eyes. How could I be here, wanted, alone, hungry, cold. How could I be on the run for multiple crimes I didn't even commit... and most of all, How could my twin have survived?
I heard movement in the vault, a slight but audible movement. I whispered
"Hello?"
"Hello" Someone whispered back.
I stood in the pitch-black squinting my eyes to try and make out who was in here with me but no luck. Suddenly as if a switch was flipped there was light in the vault. not the ceiling lights a different light. This light was coming from the person in the vault with me, the neon lights shined against my face. The outline of his body appeared and he stood about twelve feet from me knife In hand. But how... how could the killer be here.
"Fucking die" He whispered in a voice full of hate and anger.
I ran into the vault door flinging it open and running down the hall.
"He's over here" A police officer yelled from down the hall.
I turned around and there was no killer in sight. He didn't escape, he was never there. I rounded the corner and ran up the stairs full speed. I saw the rays of the flashlight behind me as I jumped up the stairs to the main floor. I looked right then left, in a second time I made the decision to go upstairs. I barely slipped past the officers on the main floor who were headed to the officers downstairs.
Upstairs the hallways were lined with offices. It would be a while before they could check all the offices. The full moon that night really helped me move through the bank in secret. As I ran down the hallway on the second floor I passed a maintenance room. I flung the door open and went in closing the door behind me slowly. The beams from the flashlights cast little beams of light under the door and I knew they were hot on my tail.
There was a generator, some machines I hadn't recognized, a computer, and finally the silver bullet...a ladder. not a folding ladder, like a cemented to the wall ladder to get you to the roof.
"Check-in there Riley ill check down here" An officer yelled from right out the door.
The officer kicked the door and it flung open exposing the innards of the room. Good thing for me I had already gotten on to the roof just in time. I'd been having too many close calls recently... Ever since I left home the cops have been in constant pursuit of me. Too bad they weren't in constant pursuit of justice or maybe the deaths of Lake, Derek, Margo, and Dane would've been avenged by now.
I ran across the roof to the side of the building. I looked over the ledge...Police lined the street with sirens and flashlights. There were only like two cars but it was a lot of me...a runaway. I checked all four sides of the roof for a ladder to get to the ground but I only found one. On the bank of the bank, a ladder ran all the way to the ground next to the trash dumpsters. There were no police in sight but I couldn't risk it. There was a high chance the police don't even check the roof I should be patient and wait it out.
If somehow I managed to get down the ladder and escape where would I go? Another abandoned building? I sat with my back against the skylight hiding my body from the roof access in case someone checks up here. I took my backpack off and ate the last of my food and sipping the water bottle I found in one of the bank offices earlier.
I laid down on the concrete...I hadn't slept for a whole day. I was so tired I couldn't take it anymore. I dozed off under the dark night sky.
My eyes opened to the sound of creaking metal...or metal sliding against metal. I shook the exhaustion off and peaked my head around the corner of the skylight. The killer stood facing me, as he walked he lit up the area around him. Footsteps boomed loudly on the roof as he approached me. I sat facing the other direction as him and held my hands over my ears.
This isn't real, this isn't real, he can't hurt you I said to my help closing my eyes tight. You see, in the weeks leading up to now I started seeing the killer again...Not the real killer the one I created in my head. When I finally mustered the courage to open my eyes the killer stood right in front of me I immediately shut my eyes again.
I felt a hand on my arm, I opened my eyes and the killer had his hand on my shoulder. I jumped back crawling across the ground away from the killer as fast as I can. I jumped up from the ground and stood looking at the killer panicked.
"How are you here?!" I yelled at him
He took a step toward me and I backed up. Again when he advanced toward me I backed away from him. I wanted my revenge more than anything but I would never beat him with a knife. I backed up until my back was against the ledge. The killer advanced toward me steadily gripping the knife intensely. I turned around and looked at the ground beneath me, the streets were empty. I stood upon the ledge facing the street below.
Somehow the killer was here, there was only one way to beat him. I could take the satisfaction of him getting his final kill. I could take away his "final survivor" kill which at this point would be enough for me. At the moment it all just felt clear to me. I turned to him and smiled, he went from a walk into a full-on sprint.
"NO!" He yelled lunging toward me
...
Before we get back to the roof of the bank we need to finish the story where we left off...My release from the mental hospital. I'm afraid that I'll have to catch you all up before I show you the concluding events on the roof. there's so much story to tell in such little time.
