2013
The bright lights that shone from the house standing across Eunbi triggered her melancholy like nothing else. With no one to uplift her mood or simply talk to her anymore, she was no longer able not to overreact whenever she would find herself somewhere that emitted warm ambience. The exact same dilemma was put forth to her by her own self when she landed in front of the meagerly secured house that she had been relentlessly staring at. The family, as much as she could discern, consisted of a mother and her two kids.
A mother with two kids to protect.
"Easy target, huh?" She simpered, forwarding her feet towards the structure.
Breaking into the house as she kicked the door open, Eunbi had ended up startling the family which was, otherwise, peacefully having their dinner. Upon encountering a stranger whom they were definitely not expecting, the mother immediately got up from her seat to deal with the same person. But what she heard as the answer to her question— one that she had purley asked out of humanity— rather amused her, which had reflected on her face as well. After all, a young girl who looked too delicate to even swear at somebody, was threatening her to submit whatever wealth she possessed, right at that instant.
Mayhap the lady had not noticed yet that the door that laid unhinged at her home's entrance, was the result of the very girl's effortless kick only— one that she had herself unleashed upon it.
"I'll show you out, come on. That was one nice trick you played, so bad it isn't Halloween yet." The woman commented in a somewhat degrading manner, which Eunbi grasped in no time.
If it had been Eunbi from a month or two back, she would have dismissed the remark gently, not minding it a bit. But things had changed. Misleading words and unfulfilled promises were causing her extreme mood swings. From the moment when she had attempted to kill herself, she had scaled her way to its polar opposite. She, for sure, had the same destructive rage, but this time, she was not letting her own self be the victim of it.
With fists balled up and shoulders a tad hunched, Eunbi pierced her gaze right through the woman's eyes— who had figured out by then that the supposedly feeble girl was not precisely right in her mind. In the meantime of Eunbi's exchange of intimidating looks, one of the kids dining inside had lost his patience. He thereby called out to his mother, expecting her to come back soon so that they could resume gorging on their mother's specialty dish.
"Just wait for five minutes, son. Mom will be right— What the fucking hel—"
The woman had merely twisted her neck in her son's direction in order to address him, winding up forgetfully placing Eunbi in her blind spot. That was the moment that surprisingly worked in the latter's favor, causing her to make a sprint straightaway to the kitchen. There, in the spur of the moment, she picked up a knife that was lying atop the slab. Neglecting the fact that the girl even had a knife on her now, the woman still did not halt herself on her tracks.
Eunbi had to save herself from that dire situation. She literally had no choices left with her. That was when she had resolved to stick the knife outwards in that woman's course, leading herself to interpose the domestic weapon into the latter's abdomen, producing a squelching sound eventually.
Her blood spread everywhere, blotting the previously-stainless kitchen floor. Eunbi stood like a stiff mannequin, her mouth agape at the sight before her.
She could swear on her life that this was not what she had intended to do in the first place. Killing a person was never a part of her little stealthy plan. All of it happened in the heat of the moment, her actions were totally impulsive. She had to do something in order to escape spending another set of years in jail, rotting there like a nobody. However, she would do anything to atone for her misconduct at the same time too.
But for that, she needed to stay alive. She needed to ensure herself a secure and blameless life.
Which also meant that she ought to eliminate any hurdle that came in her way. At that moment, it were the kids. Mercilessly injecting the same knife into the woman's children, she made her way to the house's bedroom. From there, collecting as much monetary resources as she could, she scurried outside only to hide herself behind the bushes— as if her hunt was not over yet.
With a merry piping making its way into her ears, she instantly realized that the apparent man-of-the-house had finally come. It was a matter of time that his joyous serenading turned into a heart-shattering wail, as he came across his beloved family already having been sucked out of their lives.
Deep inside her heart, Eunbi knew that the man would go bonkers and leave his fingerprints here and there only to get himself framed later on, because that was also what she had done when her mother got killed by her father. She had had blood smeared all over her body parts, and this man right there looked no less than her grown-up counterpart.
Nonetheless, she shook her head to cast away the disheartening thoughts, fetching her phone from her pocket in the due course. Once she heard the other end of the line switching active, she did what had flashed through her mind rather not so spontaneously.
"Hello, one-one-two? There's a homicide that I'd like to report." She briefed, hanging up the call soon after.
Look what you've made me do, Yoongi. She tutted while swaying her head, smiling in a reticent manner gradually.
