It had been an ordinary day for Eunbi so far, and she wanted her monotonous day to remain just like that. Truthfully, she had altogether given up on the thought of her life becoming any better. Receiving neglect from all sides, along with people's cold attitude towards her had gotten the best of her. She was just living, she did not feel alive anymore.
Since Eunbi had grown into an adult now, she could no longer be an inmate of the care home. Her repugnance towards education—unlike Yoongi— had cost her hard. She did not have quite the required qualification to be working somewhere. And so, with no choice left in her hands, she continued to reside in that care home. Although not as a liability anymore, but an employee in the same institution.
Reminiscing her time with Yoongi remained as the only distraction available to Eunbi, and that had skillfully lifted her spirits up too every now and then. Her gut told her that in no way would the man have forgotten about her. She would convince herself that all she had to do was to wait for him earnestly, for he was the only beacon of light in her world of acute and never-ending darkness. Eunbi was certain that Yoongi's love for her would never wither, and that he would embrace her in the same-old, loving way that he used to, once they met again.
Thinking about him still made her cheeks go flush.
Even when her mind was majorly engrossed in the daydreams about Yoongi, she had managed to eavesdrop on the relentless and faint conversation that was emitting from the reception, whilst working on the children's daytime meal at the same time.
The voice apart from the receptionist's was a groggy one, and yet she was able to figure out what exactly the other person was trying to say. With a wallop of epiphany inside her head, she rushed out of the kitchen praying that she was not being delusional. A splash of relief and immeasurable longing washed over her face eventually, when her two eyes had finally fallen upon the arrived guest.
"What took you so long, Yoongi? You had promised me that you'll come back to me the moment you'd get a break, then why didn't you keep your word? Do you not love me anymore?" Eunbi spoke incoherently as her tears choked her, ultimately looking down at her feet in utter desperation.
"Let's get to somewhere private, hm? We can't disturb everybody, right?" Yoongi requested, attempting to calm down the weeping one. Eunbi nodded briskly in approval, holding his hand in hers and tugging him along simultaneously.
When they perceived that they had landed themselves in a rather safe location, Yoongi cracked an uncomfortable smile, making Eunbi boil up even more in anger.
"So this is how it ends? After all those promises of staying together until the end? After all those years of me waiting loyally for you? After all those years of you prioritizing your ambitions over me with me minding not even a bit? I don't deserve this, Yoongi." Eunbi's shoulders were hunched, and her fists, balled up. It was evident how much of an emotional baggage she must've been enduring during all those times of loneliness.
Yoongi's heart ached at the sight, but he definitely did not have the power of correcting the mistakes that he had committed in the past.
"I'm sorry, Eunbi, that I made you feel this way. I had never expected our relationship to take such a bitter turn, trust me. I'm here to make up for all my mistakes. But for that I'll be needing some more time. You see, I'm still nothing. I'm still not enough to give you a good life. I don't want us to deem each other as mere burdens in our lives. That's why I require some more time. Believe me Eunbi, our story has a happy ending, but only when if we take things slow." Yoongi's eyes were pleading the whole time, and the warmth that his hands had succeeding at transmitting to Eunbi's ensured her that the former was not faking his emotions; not a tad.
Every single time Yoongi had urged her with her words, Eunbi could sense that it was all genuine. After all, the man believed that they had a happy ending, and that was what mattered the most to her.
As Eunbi prepared herself to say something assuaging to him, a croaky yet feminine voice called her out from behind.
"Eunbi? Is that you?" Upon the address by her matron, Eunbi turned to face her with a smile, only to discern a perplexed look on her face.
"If you're here then who's in the kitchen? Hadn't I left you there to take care of the food?" The supposed matron bellowed, attracting everyone's attention out there in the open field that Yoongi had otherwise thought of as a private space.
"I—I totally forgot about that, ma'am. I own up to my mistake, I'll quickly—" Eunbi could not finish apologizing when a tight slap was released across her face. With a burning sensation on the same spot as the aftermath, Eunbi stood aghast with one of her hands placed on her cheek.
"You know what? You should just leave this goddamn care home for real now. We've had enough of you!" The matron shouted in Eunbi's face frustratingly, walking past her forcibly and thus making her almost stumble.
Eunbi took a good couple of minutes for herself to regain her composure before looking into Yoongi's eyes, which had changed rather too much drastically.
