They had been held in the creepy cemetery by the witches for three miserable days now. And all they'd been given to eat was that stupid gumbo, which Elizabeth kept puking up. Apparently, her "baby" wasn't a fan. So, she was essentially starving, which—as you can imagine—put her in an extremely foul mood.
When the witches entered the chamber where she and Hayley were being held, Elizabeth didn't even bother looking up. That is, until they grabbed her without a word and dragged her away.
They brought her to a man in a tailored suit. He was... annoyingly handsome, in a refined, brooding sort of way. Definitely older. Powerful. Ancient, even—like Nik. Or Klaus. Or whatever her alleged baby daddy wanted to be called.
Elizabeth narrowed her eyes. "Who the hell are you?"
The man didn't seem offended. If anything, he looked amused. He studied her for a moment, then turned to the witches. "Give us a moment," he said, voice clipped and commanding.
Elizabeth exhaled in relief when the witches exited. "Thank God. If I had to hear Sarah's voice again, I might've stabbed her with my spoon. 'I have a special gift... you're pregnant... blah blah blah.'" She mimicked in a nasally tone, rolling her eyes. "Truly riveting conversation."
She knew she was chatty, but being alone in a different dimension for years and now stuck in a crypt again with witches made small talk practically an Olympic sport.
"I'm glad her annoying sister's dead. Honestly, I wish I'd been the one to kill her—just to see Sarah's face when it happened." She giggled. "But alas, we don't always get what we want. So, back to you: who are you? They said they needed my baby daddy to kill Marcel. Pretty sure that wasn't you, unless I was really drunk."
The man chuckled softly. "My name is Elijah. Niklaus—the father of your child—is my younger brother."
Elizabeth blinked. "So Nik didn't lie when he said his name was Nik. Huh. Still, Niklaus? Did your parents not love him or something?"
Elijah sighed. "It's complicated."
"Of course it is." She snorted. "Anyway, are you here to help us? Or just make more dramatic family introductions?"
"Us?" Elijah asked, brow raised.
Elizabeth nodded. "Yeah, they've got my friend Hayley too. She was looking for her family in the Bayou. That's where they jumped us and started tossing threats. Super charming."
"I'll get you both out. I give you my word—and I always keep my word," Elijah said, his voice sincere.
For the first time in days, Elizabeth smiled. He was sweet... and somehow still terrifying. What a combo.
