The spell had taken hold. There was no undoing it now.
Rebekah had leapt into a new body—again—but at least Klaus had followed through with my suggestion and turned his insufferable mother into a vampire. Fitting. Eternity as the thing she loathed most. Honestly? A work of art.

In the kitchen, Elizabeth sat at the table feeding Kayla, who was in a surprisingly agreeable mood for once. Across the room, Elijah moved with graceful ease, preparing breakfast like some old-fashioned gentleman who belonged in a Jane Austen novel—if Mr. Darcy wore suits and silently judged everyone.

In the living room, Hayley's voice chimed out sweetly: "Hi, honey! Auntie Hayls is here!"
Elizabeth glanced over just in time to see Hayley scoop Kolina into her arms and carry her into the kitchen.
"Ooh," Hayley added with a smile, eyes flicking to Elijah as she entered.

There was a beat—just a heartbeat—where it seemed like the two might kiss. Hayley's expression softened, expectant. But Elijah, ever the noble idiot, simply kissed Kolina on the head. Hayley's disappointment was subtle, but not invisible.

Elizabeth smirked, thoroughly entertained. Her new vampiric senses had given her quite the auditory gift the night before. What she'd overheard between Hayley and Elijah? Whew. Let's just say Mr. Noble wasn't as restrained behind closed doors.

Thank God they hadn't woken the twins. It would've taken hours to calm them down again.

As Elijah stepped out of the kitchen, Elizabeth leaned toward Hayley, her eyes twinkling with mischief.
"So... how was it?"

Hayley blinked. "What do you mean?" And then her face drained of color. "Oh my God. You heard us?"

Elizabeth grinned like the cat who got the cream. "Duh. Not that I didn't enjoy the show."

Hayley groaned.

"But seriously," Elizabeth added, nudging her. "Next time you're gonna ride Elijah, give a girl a heads-up. I'll soundproof the room. I did it to mine."

Hayley, clearly desperate to change the subject, blurted, "So... you and Klaus?"

Elizabeth lit up. "Yep. Back to how we were before. And let me tell you, the man was famished. Wanted round two, but he had to leave. He did that thing I love with—wait. You're distracting me." She narrowed her eyes. "Classic misdirection."

"I don't know what you're talking about," Hayley said, batting her lashes with faux innocence.

Elizabeth arched a brow. "Yes, you do. You know the rules. As your best friend, you must share the smut. I always do."

"And sometimes I really wish you didn't," Hayley muttered, grimacing. "There are things I don't want to know about Klaus."

"Too late." Elizabeth shrugged. "Besides, come on, don't pretend it didn't mean something. You and Elijah? That wasn't just a hookup."
