Marcel had brought them to the magic-free sanctuary with the wolves. The spell over the place kept all magic locked out—including Dahlia's. Elizabeth made sure to warn Kai the moment they arrived.

"Don't siphon the barrier," she had said firmly. "It's the only thing keeping us and the twins safe."

She knew he didn't always have perfect control over his siphoning—especially when he got emotional or bored. And boredom was clearly setting in.

Kolina sat curled in Elizabeth's lap while Kayla was perched happily beside Kai. They were all seated around a dusty table playing Monopoly. In truth, it was just a distraction—mostly for her and Kai. The twins were far too young to understand the game, but they still contributed in their own adorable way. Kolina clutched the stack of brightly colored Monopoly bills they'd "won" as part of Team Mommy.

"Loser!" Elizabeth grinned as Kai landed in jail for the third time. Kolina let out a soft giggle, followed by Kayla's contagious laughter.

"Hey!" Kai shot Kayla a mock-offended look. "We don't giggle with the enemy. You're supposed to be on my team!"

Kayla frowned at him, clearly confused by his tone, and tossed her doll dramatically to the floor. With an exaggerated sigh, Kai retrieved it and placed it gently back in her lap.

"No worries, little munchkin," he said with a wink. "Uncle Kai always wins."

The next round proved him wrong again. Kai lost money, and Elizabeth smirked as Kolina proudly waved their growing fortune.

"See, Kolina? We're on the winning team," Elizabeth teased, shooting Kai a smug look.

Kai rolled his eyes.

"Mommy's always winning," she muttered.

"That's not true!" Kai said childishly.

Before Elizabeth could respond, the door creaked open. Hayley entered the room, face tight and serious. Instantly, the mood shifted.

Elizabeth straightened and tightened her arms protectively around Kolina, her instincts flaring. She didn't even offer the toddler to Kai this time—just held her tightly like she could shield her from all the bad things.

"Don't you dare touch the board," she warned Kai without looking. "I know you cheat."

Kai gasped theatrically. "Me? Cheat? How dare you."

But the tension was rising again. Hayley was already deep in conversation with Aiden and Jackson nearby, her voice low but urgent. The wolves came both inside and out, a silent army pretending calm.

Elizabeth stood, rocking Kolina gently while watching Hayley expectantly.

"Okay," Hayley began, drawing in a breath. "Good news—Dahlia still doesn't know we're here. Bad news? She's given us until tomorrow night. Then... she's coming for Kolina."
