Elizabeth stayed behind in the nursery after Camille left. She could have compelled someone to clean, sure—but she liked knowing where everything was. Toys, bottles, pacifiers, emergency teething rings. It just made things easier, even if she hated cleaning.

She wasn't exactly "good wife" material. Her cooking was atrocious, and she was disorganized and lazy when it came to tidying up. Kai had always been the neat one. He was the one who cooked, who vacuumed their shared room, who color-coded their closet.

They'd shared a bedroom ever since their parents found out they were both "abominations"—siphoners. Which meant she wasn't allowed to bring girls or boys over, and Kai, ever the overprotective brother, had scared off the few that tried. Not that they were allowed out much to begin with.

His side of the room had always been spotless. Pristine. He had a thing about order. And he'd scold her every time she left clothes on the floor or forgot to wipe down the mirror after a shower. She used to hate it.

Now? Cleaning reminded her of him. It made her chest ache.

She was folding a tiny onesie when she felt Klaus's presence behind her. She turned and smiled as he stepped closer to the crib, his expression softening as he looked down at their daughters, both sleeping peacefully.

"Camille told me something interesting," Elizabeth said after a beat, voice casual but pointed. Klaus raised an eyebrow.

"She thinks the twins stopped the car. Just before the explosion."

Klaus's brow furrowed, his tone disbelieving. "You're saying they used magic? At that age? Is that even possible?"

"Rare," Elizabeth said, shrugging, "but yeah. It happens. Especially with strong bloodlines." She glanced down at the girls. "And they're from two of the strongest."

Klaus didn't speak, still frowning. He'd seen a lot, but babies doing magic was outside even his expectations.

"What about Kayla?" he asked. "She's a siphoner."

"I think... she siphons from herself, like me," Elizabeth replied. "Her vampire and werewolf sides are magical. But it probably drains her. When she's older, I'll enchant a ring or something—give her a stable source."

Her voice tightened slightly.

"I won't let her grow up like I did," she added. "Deprived. Desperate for magic and punished for wanting it. Siphoners crave it like a drug, and when they're denied it, it messes with their heads. Makes them violent. Power-hungry."

"They'll be powerful," she continued after a moment, watching her daughters with a strange mixture of pride and dread. "Very powerful."

Klaus gave a smug little smirk. "Of course they will. They're my daughters. They're going to be the most powerful witches the world's ever seen."
