Eve sighed as she closed the book she had finished reading. Everything seemed so plain. She took a deep breath and looked around her room. It felt as though she were inspecting her room from outside her body. Her out-of-body experience only lasted for a short minute before the sound of glass shattered.
"God damnit Cordelia!", Malcolm shouted.
"I didn't mean to, it fell out of my hands!", her mother screamed.
Eve thought about checking on the commotion but it had become so common that she was used to any shitty thing Malcolm did. She always felt a sting of hatred whenever she heard his voice. She never knew how irritating a person was until Malcolm entered her life. What a fucking life!
The silence downstairs wasn't very calming either though. She grabbed her wand off her desk and tiptoed toward her door. Eve carefully opened the door knob to her room. She walked silently down the hall before making her way downstairs. The silence was very eerie.
Many thoughts raced through Evangeline's mind. What if he killed her, she thought. No, maybe she's picking up the broken glass. Eve gripped her wand a bit more tighter. Why do I feel so anxious?
Her eyes trailed to the kitchen, where Malcolm stood over her mother. His hands couldn't be soon. What the hell, Eve thought. That's when she noticed it.
His hands were gripped onto her mother's neck.
"What the fuck! What the fuck!", Eve shouted. Her grip on her wand was even tighter than ever. Knuckles white.
Malcolm's head whipped around to stare at the black haired girl.
His eyes, she thought. What the fuck is wrong with his eyes?
His eyes were pitch black and Evangeline was horrified.
"What the hell are you doing here, you pathetic whore?" His words stung Eve but she didn't let that get to her. She watched his hands move to the wand that laid on the counter.
"I fucking live here, you scum fuck", Eve spat venomously. She kept her eyes glued on Malcolm. "Malcolm, what's your fucking problem with me?"
"Do you view me as a threat, Malcolm?" Eve asked, pointing her wand at him.
He kept his mouth shut, his grip tightening on his wand.
"Cat got your tongue, huh?" Eve smirked, wand still aimed at him. She felt so powerful at this moment. The necklace around her neck made her feel that way.
However, Evangeline didn't expect the following from Malcolm but it was soon to be a life changing moment in her life.
"From the day I met you, I've always wanted to kill you. Your mother is only important to me because of her Pureblood status. You're only a small bump in the smooth road. That's all you will ever be", Malcolm confessed.
"Likewise Malcolm. When are you planning on leaving?", Eve snarked. She wanted him to leave. She hated him.
"Once you leave first", Malcolm said sarcastically.
It was then, life felt as if it were going in slow motion.
"Avada Kedavra!", Malcolm shouted, wand pointing at Eve. She blocked it but instead of the curse dissolving, it ricocheted off her wand, which was pressed up against Eve's chest. She felt as though her soul was taken out of her. Literally. The curse then hit Malcolm in his chest, then it finally slammed into Eve. She fell to the ground, she felt as though she had died.
Although the only thing that kept her alive was the necklace, as it had absorbed the curse.
Eve thought she had died. Her body felt defeated.
"Eve no!", a voice yelled. The smell of cigarettes, leather, and cologne surrounded her. Warm, gentle hands holding her as she laid in the arms of someone.
Then as soon as she collapsed, her eyes sprung open. Why am I still alive? she thought. Her hands then felt the necklace that absorbed the curse. And unknowingly to her apart of her soul and Malcolm's .
Although she didn't murder him, her soul latched onto his when he tried to kill her. She felt the life drain from her when it first hit but something felt off.
Evangeline Noir was still alive. She wasn't dead.
And unbeknownst to her, she had somehow turned her necklace from an innocent, loving gift from her father to a sinister artifact.
A Horcrux.

Tom felt it. The sting of that energy again. It felt warm but deadly, as though he had touched fire and burned himself. He looked up from his diary he was currently writing in."I felt it again", he wrote. "I'm not quite sure as to why I keep feeling it, but it must have something to do with that man's grave. It has also come to my attention that I feel as though something new awaits me at Hogwarts. I am going to admit that I am quite thrilled of the idea of finally creating my army and carrying out my plans but something about this year feels different".
Tom closed his diary and ran his fingers through his dark brown hair. He felt this exact same feeling when he saw that girl.
The red glint, he thought. His mind flashed back to the day of that one funeral he had stored in his mind.
Little girl in all black, a face with no expression.
She was his next target and he was more than determined to find her. Even if it meant taking the lives of those proven innocent.
Tom then sighed. He inspected the cemetery a bit more closer. Although it was night, he saw a figure. But he felt cold when he saw it. Why was the figure transparent?
He decided that he was going to go to the cemetery. Throwing on his shoes, he snuck out of the orphanage, making sure to be extra quiet. He breathed quite heavily as he felt more and more anxious. This was one of the few moments where curiosity really ate away at him and he had to fulfill it. He opened the gate to the cemetery and walked over to where he saw the transparent figure. It was over that Lawrence Noir grave.
Tom stared at the figure, then at the grave. The ghostly figure that now appeared before him didn't look older than 35. He must've died when he was young then.
"Who are you?" Tom interrogated, watching the figure.
The ghost turned to look at Tom.
"My name is Lawrence Noir and your final years at Hogwarts are going to be quite valuable, so don't run from it", announced the figure.
Tom felt as though he was going to laugh. What does a fucking ghost know about my future? he thought. But maybe he should play along as it seemed funny enough.
"What exactly do you mean, sir?" Tom asked, trying to seem as clueless as possible.
"You will meet someone who's power subsequently matches yours. You will feel as though you must defeat it. Listen to me, whatever you do, do not run from it. You will regret it", Lawrence said.
Tom bit his lower lip. He didn't want to laugh but at the same time, he felt a bit threatened. No one can be more powerful than I, Tom thought. Then another thought burst into his mind. Maybe he knows about the red glint and the girl.
However Tom was smart and chose to not poke at the topic of either as he knew it wouldn't do any good. On his way back to the orphanage, he devised a plan. He would get closer to the figure and manipulate his way into getting the information he wants. He would act clueless the whole time and seem as harmless as possible. Tom felt invincible as he lit a cigarette, the moon setting behind him. He smiled. No one will ever match my power or my energy, he thought.
He was wrong. So wrong.
