**Ian POV
My mom...she was gone.

How could she just be...gone?!

Lacey was sitting in front of me, looking pretty worse for wear after a visit with a doctor, who seemed very worried and kept calling her Aunt Lacey.

I wasn't sure who that was, but she wasn't happy to be called away from her pediatric practice, I heard her argue with Lacey.

Lark was still here and fussing over her mother.

But, no one babies Lacey Reed-Watanabe, so she wasn't having it.

"Lark, stop bugging your mom." I heard and saw a guy with black hair and glasses walk in, clearly looking a bit worried when he saw the state Lacey was in.

Lacey had several bruises and cuts, but it seemed she was trying to push down the feelings of pain.

She looked at him, "I'm fine, really, Cam. You didn't have to..."

He cut her off, "I was already coming up, and then I heard about this. You can't stop me from worrying, Lace."

I frowned at the nicknames, who was this guy?

Kit sat up a bit straighter as this guy went and whispered to Lacey about something.

Lacey looked up at him as he grabbed her hand, "What?"

"Relax, we'll find out what happened." He assured her, pushing up his glasses and then leaning down to kiss Lacey.

I nudged Nora, since I knew she was in "Nora land" and subtly pointed at the pair.

Honestly, Lacey wasn't someone I pegged for having a serious relationship, she was more of an independent woman than a married woman.

But, sure, there's someone for everyone.

That's when I realized the similarities he shared with Lark.

While she looked a lot like her mom, she shared traits with him too.

I got a text, allowing me to be in a group chat along with everyone at the table, even if we were right next to each other right now.

How'd she get my number?

"That's Cam Watanabe, her husband! Big time genius!" Kit texted.

It was all in caps and had lots of emojis and exclamation points.

Why did she know who he was?

Caleb scoffed and looked up from his phone, "Can someone talk about what just happened, please? I would like to know what happened to my parents."

His voice caught everyone's attention.

Lark's eyes narrowed, clearly angry at his sudden outburst and she started to stand up, but Cam stopped and held her in her seat.

"Lark, calm down. They deserve to know." He told her.

She glared at him, "I hate when you do that."

"I know, so does your mom. But that's why I'm here, to keep you both in check." He said to her and I just frowned.

Now I wanted to know if they knew as well.

"He's right. But what do you want me to say?" Lacey asked, putting an ice pack on the table.

Actually, I think it was a bag of frozen peas, but I wasn't quite sure as I was a bit farther away from Lacey.

"What happened? Who...what..." Kit started, she had a million questions in her mind.

Lacey sighed and rubbed her head, "What I got before she knocked me out, was a name. It's not much."
