**Lark POV

Everyone was in the living room of the house, listening to my Mom's theory of what happened to Lydia.

"Let me get this straight; you think Lydia's a vampire?" Nora asked, sounding very surprised and not really believing my mom's theory.

My mom nodded, "Yes, it seems to point there."

I looked at my Dad, he had this look on his face, like he didn't expect this at all and he still wasn't sure that this was the answer he was coming to.

"Lacey...a vampire? Are you sure? The monster took the form of a bat, not a vampire." Dad told her and she sighed in response.

"The speed, the aversion to sunlight, the mark on her neck..."

Kit's eyes widened, it was clear she had been crying some, but she was more shocked than anything, "I thought it was hickey."

"It was too brutal to be a hickey, Kit. Whoever did that drew blood." Mom said.

Damn, that must have hurt.

My sister grabbed Jo's hand, clearly trying to comfort her wife as they had no idea that this was the problem that was inflicting Lydia.

I think we all thought she just caught a cold.

"But...how did you know she didn't have a cold?" Ian asked her.

"We all thought it was a cold." Jo said in a quiet voice.

My mom nodded, "I thought as much too. Now...was she attacked recently?Do any of you know when this could have happened?"

"When she left the diner." Caleb said.

My dad frowned, "Two days ago? Does she know it's dangerous to walk home alone at night? Things like this tend to happen when we're not careful."

Both my parents made sure Ophelia and I were always prepared, even if we had to be alone.

Sadly, being alone at night as a woman was always a risk.

"So until this latest Hex monster is found, you guys shouldn't be alone. Always pair up." Dad warned them.

He also looked at me, Jo and Ophelia, "That includes you three two. I don't think they'll just go after rangers, but people they're close to as well."

I looked down at my hands, angry at the predicament.

I could take care of myself.

"Dad, I can handle myself and you know that." I argued with him.

I stood up, but Nora held my hand, "I don't think he's saying that, Lark."

"We know you all can handle yourselves, it's just a precaution, Lark." Mom told me and I just scoffed at her.

"While you guys are being cautious, I'm going to do something productive." I said and left the house.

**3rd POV

Lydia was stuck in a headspace that was not healthy.

Not healthy if she was human, but even before she was turned into a vampire by Lamia, she was not quite human anymore.

As the ranger of wind, she wasn't quite 100% human anymore.

But right now, even less so due to Lamia's power over her.

"How is my little vampire? Ready to serve her mistress when the time comes?" Lamia asked, running her clawed hand through Lydia's hair.

Lydia stood there, letting the Hex do as she wanted as she replied with a quiet, "Yes."
