Tony Stark was a mess.

He barely got enough sleep anymore, which caused him to be extremely sleep deprived. He couldn't face being alone in a room, and it embarrassed him to know that he has gotten so weak.

The memory of what happened was never able to leave Tony's brain. It was all he could think about, and all he could process as he sat up in the hospital bed.

The nightmares came every night.

It only reminded him of how much of a failure he was. He couldn't save them, and it was haunting him every single day.

Pepper woke up from the chair beside his bed as the billionaire abruptly sat up, his forehead breaking a sweat as his chest heaved up and down. It was starting to worry Pepper with how little sleep Tony was getting, always getting cut short with the nightmares that kept reoccurring.

The woman reached to touch Tony's hand, his body becoming tense as he felt her warm fingers.

"Are you okay?"

Tony was extremely spaced out, and he shook his head in an attempt to regain some control of his racing thoughts.

"Y-Yeah." He responded after a moment.

"I'm here." Pepper interlocked their hands, noticing that he was on edge.

Tony just wanted to be back in his own bed. It would definitely make things easier for him, but he needed to stay in this part of the facility to make sure he stood in the best care. Pepper was having the top nurses and doctors look after the hero until he was back in good health.

"Here," Pepper grabbed the cup of water from the side table, handing it to him. "Drink this."

Tony took a few sips as Pepper carefully examined him, silence filling the room.

The billionaire never felt so out of it in his entire life. He was always able to bounce back up even when he felt at his lowest. There were so many obstacles he faced, and some almost left him severely hurt most of the time, but this was something that Tony has never felt before.

His body was physically in pain from dehydration, starvation, body aches, and just pure exhaustion. His mentality wasn't in the right place either, being too caught up with how much everything was ruined.

"Steve?" Tony finally spoke up again as he faced the blonde woman.

"He's still here." She confirmed.
