Chapter 23: Messing With Minds

-Sapphire's POV-

"I don't know. It could be weeks... or even months," I stood at the end of Kili's hospital bed. It had been five days since he had fallen into what we have gone to calling a "coma", even though it really isn't. Fili sat next to his brother, holding his hand. I walked over to him, and put my hand on his shoulder. He looked up and I could see he was struggling not to cry.

"Five days," he whispered, looking at me and then back at Kili. I nodded and something was sent through my head. I stumbled backwards clutching my head in pain. He stood up and ran towards me but I shook my head. I looked at him, his face filled with fear and confusion. I looked at Fili, and noticed that he was breathing heavier. Something was taking control of me... the thing controlling the "coma". I looked at Fili and in a voice that wasn't my own something spoke.

"Five days to start. Five years the next. Watch them age... watch them die. Have nothing to help them. Lose hope... NO! Get out of my head! Leave me alone! NO STOP!" My voice rang over the controlled one. I felt my mind start going black.

Stop! You don't control me! Leave us alone! Sssttttooopppp! I screamed from the inside.

Fine! The voice hissed Your friend can take the pain... no. How about your daddy?

"NO!" I scream, not able to hold it in any more. I pushed through the bluriness and  run to where I think my father is. I fell to the ground screaming and holding my head. I felt my body convulsing and I curled up into a ball. The pain felt like bullets running through my body. I kept screaming and I noticed people gathering around me. Yet he still wasn't here. Where was dad? I screamed louder and waited. Someone pushed through the crowd and crouched down next to me. Aragorn grabbed my hand and I held him close enough to whisper in his ear.

"The... the... Scarvulrax," I whispered before passing out, and yet after I did blood still flowed through my lips. Like a reaction to poison.

-Aragorn's POV-

I picked up Sapphire and pushed into the hospital room. I ran to the nearest hospital bed and put her on it. I grabbed some ice from my cooler and put it on her head. It immediately melted into water. I bit my lip to stop myself from crying. I had heard of this before, but had never actually experienced... or had I?

FLASHBACK

I thrust my head into the book I was reading to hide myself from the bullies in my school Garlyn and Scortle (yeah I know, wierd names. But dont say that to them!). Obviously my hiding didn't work.

"Hey, Aradork! Got any lunch money for me!" Garlyn asked, walking over towards me. I pretended not to hear him, and grabbed another random book from my backpack. Funny... this one didn't feel or look like any of the books I knew. I didn't care though. I flipped through the pages, reading to avert talking to those two bullies. I felt someone's breath down my neck.

"You were asked a question. Answer it!" Scortle growled in my ear. I looked up nervously.

"You know... I really need to get to class," I replied. I went to get up, but got pushed back against my locker. My book fell to the ground and Garlyn picked it up.

"Oh what's this? The Scarvulrax is a fabled, scary beast that can take the form of anything. Ohhhh, scary. Usually the form of a 'disease' you could call it. Be careful... it likes danger and evil/good. What the heck? That's all it says! What kind of cheap junk is this?!" He growled throwing the book on the floor. I went to say something but stopped. I looked down at the book and noticed something was slowly appearing.

"Give me my money!" Garlyn screamed. I wanted him out of there so badly that I didn't even care and gave him 2 dollars. He growled something and walked away. I picked up the book and looked at it. New lines of writing appeared under the original writing. Your daughter to fall, my curse of fate. Garlyn Brose to die a satan. For a fifteen year old this was so scary that I dropped the book in the garbage and tried to forget about it... and now it made perfect sense. Garlyn came in 3 days later ill... weak. Then a week after that... he died, and even though he had been mean... I mourned for him. No one deserves to die.

END OF FLASHBACK

"Bones, take care of her. There is something I need to do... I might be able to stop this," I whisper, looking over at Kili and Fili who had been reunited. I called to them, "Guys! Protect her! Help Bones with whatever you can."

"If you're thinking of sacrificing yourself... please don't... we need you. She needs you," Bones said grabbing my arm. I pulled out of his grasp. I began to walk away but I looked back over my shoulder and said 6 words.

"I will do whatever it takes."
