Chapter 39:
A/N: this is the final part to Our Final Stand. Forewarning, this chapter includes some vivid scenes (gore and violence).
Rishardo and Kili walked along the narrow, chipping clay stairs that would bring them towards the fire that blazed up across their faces. The fires of hell welcomes them as their own, lapping at their skin, making it singe and burn. Kili's rugged shirt latched onto the rocky walls and he let out a groan.
"Rishardo!" He snarled in frustration. Rishardo's head turned and saw the situation. He side stepped, back pressed against the wall, to where Kili was and cut the shirt away from his body.
"Look, doesn't matter what we wear, we're both vulnerable here. If you need to, lose the pants too," only now did Kili realize that Rishardo had cut away the bottom of his black, tight, pants, and his tight knit red shirt had suffered the loss of its sleeves. His hair was a knotted, singed mess. Kili looked at his own appearance as they kept going and noticed that his hair suffered damage from the flames as well. They were in rough shape and they knew it, but they kept forcing their way down the stairs as the firey doors of hell slowly closed above them.
BACK IN THE CASTLE
Sapphire shakes as the spasm keeps going and all the prince of the underworld can do is sit, eyes wide with fear, and watch as her body convulses and twists in pain. She lets out screams of pain and his mind races to find some way to help her. She starts to thrash and hurt herself, cuts appearing across her legs and arms. Unable to think of anything else and running out of time, he grabs her and pulls her into him, trapping her arms with his and trapping her legs between his. She sobs into his chest and his heart wrenches 'someone is going to hear her...'.
Without thinking, he lifts her chin and locks his now purely soft human lips with her warm, sweet aromatic lips, continuing to hold her against him. Her tears slow, her heart rate steadying, her body warming up to his touch. He lets go and she falls gently on the bed, her body weak and frail. Grabbing the blankets again, he pulls her into him and throws the blankets over the two angels. He opens his mouth to speak, but he's cut off by a small whimper followed by a tiny cute snore. She'd fallen asleep, her head against his chest, body curled against his. He smiles sadly at her small, weakening body. Suddenly, he becomes aware of an approaching presence in the back of his mind and he closes his eyes. Two men, one of dwarvish size without a shirt, and another closer to his height with torn pants and shirt battle against the raging fires of hell and head towards the castle. He opens his eyes, amazed and coming up with a plan.
UP ON THE LAND OF THE LIVING
"Kili? Kili!" Fili roams the area, calling for Kili, while everyone else calls in search for Rishardo as well. Aragorn sits at the desk at which his daughter once sat, so beautiful and grown up, and he hadn't even known. Arwen walks in, a tray with small sandwiches and hot chocolate on it.
"Aragorn...?" She walks over and puts the tray down, walking over to kneel by his side and put a hand on his shoulder. He growls and pushes her hand away, since their daughter's death, Arwen and Aragorn hadn't spoken much and he, well, he kept a grudge. She looks saddened but keeps looking up at him, "you can't stay mad at me forever..."
"I can't?!" His head snaps towards her, teeth bared threatening, eyes burning with rage. "You never told me, never said a word! You let me believe the only child I had was a monster! And the only reason you told me was because She Was DYING! I got barely any time to tell her I love her! Prove to her how much I cared! You stole that away from me! You stole HER away from me! So tell me again, why can't I be mad at your forever?!"
His expression is pure rage and she backs away from him. Her head lowered, she walks towards the exit. She stops, one hand on the door frame, and turns to him.
