A/N I wanted to maybe try doing the thing where I ask you a random question and you guys answer it in the comments? I'll share my answer at the end of the story? So um just to see if this actually works....

Question: Favourite Shadowhunter family?

"You sure you're okay to host this party, Magnus?" Alec asked as he got up from Magnus' lap.

"Darling," Magnus sighed, "It's hardly a party. Just a little get-together with your siblings and their respective others seeing it's New Year's Eve."

"They can be a bit of a handful," Alec said with an eye-roll.

"I'm sure we'll get through it," Magnus answered with a small kiss to Alec's forehead.

"Are you going to be wearing fancy clothes?" Alec asked after a while and Magnus laughed.

"Nope. It's more like a sleepover, so I think I'll stay in my dressing gown," Magnus replied and then added, "Sweethheart, it's literally nothing. We get a bit tipsy, talk, probably do each other's make-up and kiss right at the start of New Year."

"Wait. That's a tradition?"

"The kissing? Of-"

"The make-up, Magnus," Alec said, eyes widening at the prospect of wearing make-up. Magnus laughed again and Alec smiled; Magnus' laugh, Magnus himself, had that effect on him.

"No," the warlock said, "But Izzy and I probably will."

"As long as I'm not involved I'm good."

Just before Magnus was going to reply, the doorbell rang.

"WHO DARES DISTURB THE HIGH WARLOCK OF BROOKLYN?"

"Your Shadowhunter family," Jace's voice answered, "And, you know, the person who shares a sacred bond, greater than any other bond, with your boyfriend?"

"I don't recall any such thing," Magnus retorted even as he got up to open the door. Jace, Clary, Simon and Izzy spilled inside, all of them giving Magnus a small hug. All of them except Jace.

"It's not manly to hug my parabatai's boyfriend," Jace said, puffing his chest out.

"And otherwise you're manly?" Simon countered, earning himself an affectionate swat from Izzy.

"Talking to the hero of a major war here, Lewis," Jace said with a glare that everyone knew was friendly.

"And I am?" Simon asked.

"A hero of a major war too," Clary said and winked at her best friend.

"You're meant to be on my side," Jace grumbled.

"Best friends before boyfriends," Simon pointed out and Magnus silently removed himself from the conversation, going to stand beside Alec again.

"Told you this was a bad idea," Alec whispered in Magnus' ear.

"I mean, it's nice to have family like this. I haven't had one in... well forever. So..."

"Hey," Alec said back softly and clasped Magnus' hand is his. "As long as I'm alive, you're always going to have a family. I promise."

Magnus just smiled, too smitten to actually say anything. He instead turned around, looped his hands around Alec's neck and kissed him with all he had. They heard someone clear their throat. Both stepped away from the other.

"Could I get changed somewhere?" Clary asked, apparently finished with their bickering. Apparently all had finished bickering and all were staring at Magnus and Alec kissing. Alec blushed as Magnus pointed to a spare room. Clary and Izzy departed whilst Jace and Simon waited.
