Alec nudged Chairman Meow from the cat's current position near his head. The cat did not budge. Deciding it was no use, Alec carried on checking his emails as well as messaging the Head of the Chicago Institute about new things that could be implemented to make Institutes better.
Magnus was exhausted. He had been away from home for the past week for a High Warlock meeting that had been going on for a decade without a decent solution for the problem: warlocks going rogue. The High Warlocks had decided to review the situation every year to maybe get a good solution. A decade in, there hadn't been any of that kind of solution.
And now, after a week, Magnus was using the last of his magic to create a Portal into the loft.
Alec heard a Portal open and he knew because of the wards it would only be Magnus. And sure enough, Alec heard Magnus' footsteps coming towards the bedroom, and that's when Alec realised how messy the bed was thanks to Alec and the Chairman. Magnus would hate the mess it was.
So as soon as Magnus was near the door, Alec raced out of the bed and caught his boyfriend in an embrace. He felt Magnus relax against him, felt the exhausition pouting out of him.
"Hey, love," Alec whispered, "Tired?"
"Definitely," Magnus groaned as his muscles relaxed. Magnus was pulling away when Alec stopped him by a strong grip on his shoulders.
Alec had to stop Magnus before he saw how untidy the bed was. Otherwise, Magnus would use magic to make the bed neater and considering the sate of Magnus, Alec knew that Magnus doing magic was not a good idea right now.
"Close your eyes and hold out your hands."
It was abrupt and Alec did not exactly know why he said that but he smiled when Magnus obeyed, his eyes fluttering shut and his arms held out, palms facing upward.
Magnus did not want to disappoint Alec if his boyfriend had a surprise for him. So Magnus obliged eventhough all he wanted was to crash into sleep. Magnus heard some scuttering of feet, something that sounded like sheets flying everywhere, a gentle brush of air and then Alec was there.
Alec was there, turning Magnus' hands the other way round, his palms faced downward. And then, Alec whispered, "It's not an expensive present or something if that's what you were expecting."
And then Alec kissed each of Magnus' hands and ran his fingers over the stones of Magnus' ring.
Magnus opened his eyes and found Alec still holding his hands and looking at them as if they were the most precious thing on the planet.
Magnus hummed, "I wasn't expecting anything except to see your beautiful self, but that was a nice little present."
Alec smiled and Magnus leaned down to press his lips against Alec's softly. Alec pulled away, smiling gently.
"You're tired, love," Alec whispered, "Get into bed; I'll get some comfortable clothes and some food for you."
"Lie down with me," Magnus requested, leaning his head on Alec's shoulder.
"Some food, then yes," Alec said and helped Magnus get into the now-tidy bed.
"I see Chairman Meow has not given you too much trouble with the bed," Magnus observed.
"Nope," Alec grinned, "None at all."
Magnus narrowed his eyes.
"What?" Alec shrugged innocently. "Let's get some food for you."
With a devious smile, Alec went to the kitchen and heated up the lasagne that he had cooked today. He went back to the bedroom to find Magnus leaning against the headboard, his eyes halfway shut. Alec sat next to Magnus on the bed and looped an arm around the warlock's shoulders.
"Eat for me, Magnus," Alec whispered and held the fork of lasagne to Magnus. With a grumble, Magnus let Alec feed him and after that, he held onto Alec's hand.
"Clothes, love," Alec whispered.
"No."
"You are not sleeping in skin-tight jeans, Magnus," Alec said, brushing Magnus' hair back.
"Yes."
With some struggle, Alec got himself out of bed and fished out shorts and a hoodie for Magnus. He then helped Magnus undress and then slipped the comfortable clothes onto him. And that seemed to be enough for Magnus.
The warlock buried himself into the cover and when Alec sat down next to him, he curled into the Shadowhunter's side. Alec threaded his finger through Magnus' hair and kissed his boyfriend's head. Magnus murmured wordlessly and Alec smiled with adoration.
"Alexander?" Magnus said sleepily.
"Right here, my love."
"You know how you said that the kiss you gave me was not an expensive present or anything?"
Alec had to think for a minute before he realised that Magnus meant the kiss Alec gave to each of Magnus' hands. Alec hummed then, waiting for Magnus to continue.
"That might not have been expensive but it was the best anything I could ever recieve. More valuable than anything that has ever existed or will ever exist. Except you, of course."
Alec had put out the light and Magnus could not see the dampness in Alec's eyes. Alec did not know what to say to that. He thought for a minute.
"You forgot about yourself," Alec whispered.
Magnus made a pleased sound.
"Come on, Magnus, to sleep," Alec said gently, "Good night, love."
