A/N This is my fluffy and cute idea for this prompt! I hope you enjoy!
Question: Fluff or angst? Which do you prefer?
Alec woke up to his phone ringing and tried to attend to it as quickly as possible so that it did not wake Magnus up, who was protesting to Alec's movements as the Shadowhunter answered the phone, stumbling in half-sleep to the living room.
"Hey, Catarina," Alec said, "Morning."
"Good morning," Cat replied, "I unfortunately have bad news."
"Oh no," Alec said, concerned, "Are you hurt?"
"No, no," she laughed it off, "It's just I can't watch Max and Rafe today. A patient needs me."
"Oh, okay, don't worry about it, Cat."
"Can't you ask you siblings?" Catarina suggested.
"As much as I'd like to," Alec began, "Clary and Jace have a rather important meeting and Isabelle and Simon are on Patrol. Thanks though, Cat, and I hope everything goes well with your patient."
"Thanks, Alec," Cat sighed, "Bye!"
"See you."
Alec sighed and went onto cancelling the reservations he had made for himself and Magnus when his warlock entered the sitting room and crawled into Alec's lap, leaning his head on Alec's collar bone. Alec put his phone away.
"Hiya," Magnus whispered, kissing Alec's neck.
"Morning, love," Alec said back softly and kissed Magnus on the lips. "Happy birthday."
"Wait, it's actually my birthday?" Magnus asked, incredelious.
"Yes, Magnus," Alec answered with a smile. He then sighed. "Cat was meant to watch the kids and we were meant to get lunch together, but something came up and she couldn't watch the boys so I had to cancel the reservations, sorry."
"Alexander, don't you dare apologise for something like this. It's cool, I don't mind spending the day with my three favourite boys. And speaking of that, come back to bed with me? Some, you know, alone time before the kids wake up?" Magnus was wiggling his eyebrows at Alec and was fluttering his eyeslashes, so with a laugh, Alec let Magnus carry him to the bedroom and they spent an hour there, before Max's cheery 'daddy!' called to them.
Magnus and Alec went back to the sitting room, ruffling their kids' hair.
"Happy birthday, papa!" Max squealed in utter delight.
"Thanks, my baby," Magnus smiled as he swung Max into his arms. Alec was watching this play out with Rafe by his side.
"Happy birthday, papa," Rafe said and Magnus thanked him with a smile.
"I'll go make breakfast," Alec offered.
"I'll help. Go on boys, do your teeth and stuff," Magnus said to his kids before flashing Alec a smile.
"There's no need, Magnus," Alec said, "I've got it. Just let me pamper you on your birthday."
The kids had dispersed to their respective bathrooms, so Magnus and Alec met in the middle of the sitting room, Magnus gripping Alec's elbows.
"I do like the sound of that, but come on, I'll keep you company," Magnus said and before Alec could protest, he dragged the Shadowhunter to the kitchen.
"What do you want?" Alec asked.
"I don't mind. How about you?"
"Oh, I don't really care. I mean, it's your birthday, so you pick," Alec muttered and Magnus snorted quietly.
"No, Alexander," Magnus tutted, "How about you for breakfast?"
"Oh," Alec sighed, blushing, "Um, well. The kids."
"Later then," Magnus winked, "How about pancakes for breakfast?"
"Sounds good," Alec smiled and went onto preparing pancake batter before getting out a pan. Magnus popped himself down on the counter.
"What an attractive sight this is," Magnus wondered aloud.
"Yeah?" Alec asked with a grin and before Magnus could say anything rude, the kids bounded into the kitchen.
"What are we having for breakfast?" Max inquired eagerly.
"Pancakes," Magnus informed him and everyone except Alec seated themselves on the kitchen island.
Alec finished making the last of the pancakes and served everyone their portions before sitting down next to Magnus. All ate in a domestic silence with occasional squeals of delight from Max. Once breakfast done and plates were cleared, Max eagerly tugged Magnus to the sitting room.
"We have present for you, papa!" Max told his father and Magnus grinned. Alec and Rafe followed behind before going into Rafe's bedroom to carry down the present they had made together.
"Close your eyes, Magnus," Alec said and Magnus obeyed before he felt something being placed down in front of him.
"Open them," he heard Alec's voice in his ears before he felt a soft kiss to his cheek.
Magnus opened his eyes and found a massive present the was square in shape. He tore the wrappings open and found it to be a massive canvas which had a not-amazingly-drawn picture of Magnus, Alec, Max and Rafe.
"We drew it with Aunt Clary," Rafe said and Max jumped into Magnus' arms.
"Do you like it, papa?" Max asked hopefully. Magnus had tears in his eyes at the thought of his sons painting such a wonderful picture for him.
"Of - of course I like it," Magnus stammered as Alec sat down next to him and pulled him into a hug.
"Boys, give papa and me a minute? I have to give a secret present to him," Alec asked with hopeful eyes. Both the boys thankfully nodded and ran to their rooms. Once the kids had gone, Magnus pressed his lips to Alec's in a feverish fashion.
"Oh that was absolutely gorgeous," Magnus breathed, voice trembling with affection. Alec gently brushed across Magnus' cheek with a thumb.
"Hey, hey," the Shadowhunter whispered, "Don't cry, my love."
"It's happy tears, don't you worry," Magnus reassured him whilst pulling Alec into a hug and burrying his head in Alec's neck.
"I got you a little something, Magnus," Alec reported after a while. "Here."
He placed a gold bracelet in Magnus' hands and a new set of tears came to Magnus' eyes. Carved into the bracelet were the words 'Lightwood-Bane. Aku Cinta Kamu'.
"Alexander, that - it's so beautiful," Magnus stammered as he slipped the bracelet onto his wrist.
"I'm glad you like it, my love," Alec whispered before giving Magnus a kiss. "Happy birthday."
"Thank you a ton, my Alec," Magnus whispered back.
And for lunch, instead of a fancy restaurant, the Lightwood-Banes ended up making lunch together and Max insisted that they made cake, so they did and whilst the boys decorated the cake, (in a not-very-appetising manner) Magnus and Alec got some time on the sofa, which Magnus used to his full advantage.
As the day came to an end, Magnus and Alec tucked their kids into bed, before going back to the sofa again, cuddling up to each other.
"Best birthday ever," Magnus said and Alec smiled.
"In all the centuries of living?" Alec asked with a grin.
"Yeah," Magnus replied positively, "I have a family this time round."
Alec and Magnus both gulped before Alec kissed Magnus softly.
"Happy birthday, my Magnus," Alec said when they broke away.
"My Alexander," Magnus whispered, "Thank you."
